I've done like 13 classes. Like I'm doing good. It's fine. Yeah. There's a leaderboard in the app for the spin challenge. And the first place person is this woman, Renee L, who I am obsessed with. I don't know her. I don't know what province

I like cancer every, every day before I go to bed. I check to see how many she's at. When I wake up in the morning, I check to see how many she's at. I did seven by the, when you were asleep. She does like four a day. Like I'll go to bed and she'll have done like two more by the time I wake up. Yeah. I'm trying to do math and I will not

[00:35:10] You'll just skills to everybody more broadly because this should not have ever happened. Correct. So. Brad Pitt is in the middle of a catfishing scandal. Yeah. Because a. So it came out like, I don't know, two weeks ago. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:35:31] And a woman claimed on a French news show that she was scammed out of 830,000 euros. Yeah. You were there. Yeah. By, by, by someone who's pretending to be Brad Pitt, which I'm pretty sure like that many euros is probably over a million us dollars. Right. Mm hmm. Um, so. There are scammers online. And okay, before we even get into it, like.

[00:36:00] The online like scam is fear. It was very, very interesting to me. Yeah. And one of the more interesting like pieces of media about it that I've consumed was the podcast called Love Janessa, which was produced, I think in partnership between CBC podcasts and NPR podcasts, or maybe CBC and BBC. I can't remember. But it basically, there's this like one Brazilian woman, and her images are the most used in the world by catfishers,

[00:36:29] like in romance scams. And it's like her pictures are just used all the time. And it like went into, you know, how these scams are created as well as, you know, kind of reasons why people do fall for them, as well as they actually interviewed the woman whose images get used and like talk to her about how this has impacted her life being. Like people think they're talking to her. And then get mad when she doesn't, you know,

[00:36:58] provide the response that they think she should based on like the response. Anyways, super interesting. Everyone should listen to that podcast. Love Janessa. That's, that's the point. Yeah. Love that. But this scam continued because now scammers have AI to use AI generated images, which can be really convincing or can be really convincing if you don't know what to look for to know if something's AI. Yes. And yes,

[00:37:24] people were using AI generated pictures of Brad Pitt to trick this 53 year old woman into believing she was in a relationship with the real life Brad Pitt, which I'm sorry. And. These are not good photos. These are not good photos, y'all. I, and this is, so it's like, but I, you know what? I should send these to my mom. To see if she would fall for it.

[00:37:52] You should send them to her so that she knows what not to fall for in the future. Yeah. But I just want to see, I'm going to literally screenshot this right now. And so they use pictures of quote unquote Brad Pitt in the hospital. To be like, I have cancer and I need your money. And like one of them is literally a picture. I don't even think it's AI. I think it's just a picture of a surgery where they like popped Brad Pitt's face into the patient's spot.

[00:38:21] It literally is so bad. And. And don't know. Do you hear people like zoom in? No, they don't know how. My mom is always zooming in like too much. And so it's like, it's so bad. These are all so horrible. Um, I, I'm literally shocked. And so. The scammer was DMing this woman on Instagram, sending AI generated videos and images. And that's like,

[00:38:51] I'm sure all of us have received an Instagram DM from like a fake account of a celebrity where they're like, hi, I'm Jeremy strong. Please send me $100. Um, I guess I'm not famous. No, I think that means that you probably have like good settings because. It's really, it's so crazy. And. Uh, you just like, you delete, like you get a message and you just delete it. But like. Part of the psychology that goes into this stuff too. Like you,

[00:39:21] I'm sure if you've gotten scam messages, you're like, this is so bad. How would anyone fall for that? But part of like the architecture of this type of scam is those opening messages are bad on purpose because they want to filter out anyone who will have like a shred of doubt at any point. They want the people who will fall for the most obviously fake thing possible because they won't question it as the scam progresses. And they're like a juicier target.

[00:39:50] So it's important to be careful online. Right. Um, it's the same as going back to like way back when you would get like a fax to your office that would be like, I'm a Nigerian prince. right. Million dollars. Right. Like that's bad and obviously bad, but the people who will fall for that. Are not going to question any future levels to the scam. And so this woman literally divorced her husband. Yup. Thinking that she was going to get together with Brad Pitt.

[00:40:20] Foolish. And he said, Oh, my bank accounts are locked because of my divorce with Angelina Jolie. Mm hmm. Which like, I'm sorry. In what universe are they locking the bank accounts of like one of the, like a very rich and powerful man. And you think he only like that. And, and he's reaching out to, to you, to you, to you, a random woman in your fifties from France. God.

[00:40:47] And so she sent him all this money. I mean, obviously she was a good mark because she had over 800,000 to send. So I guess that made her a prime target. It could never be me. The Tinder swindler all over again. It's literally my, my enemies are after me. Uh, I, I need this money. And she only realized that this was not real because she saw Brad Pitt on the news with his new girlfriend. Oh,

[00:41:16] even then she reaches out. Foolish. What? Yeah. I missed that part of that. So she's, so, um, even her own 22 year old daughter, right. Try to be like, Hey, this is not real. Like, come on, blah, blah, blah. Um, but then Annie saw, yeah, like online that Brad, the real one had debuted his real relationship, uh, with Ines de Ramon. And even despite the scammers attempt to rectify the situation,

[00:41:45] with AI generated news report that the actor's exclusive relationship, um, she eventually decided to end things. Oh, I guess. Okay. You're right. Um, but it feels like it, it's almost like that still didn't, she wasn't like, okay, it's over. Oh, I just, that's so horrible. Like, I know this, like the headline is sounds funny. And the AI photos are so bad that it's like,

[00:42:15] you could lean into like, Joe, I can understand why jokes happen here, but it's like, this is so devastating. This woman lost her entire divorce settlement. She lost everything. She has nothing left. She was targeted and victimized in a horrible way. And then because people think, oh, well, I wouldn't fall for that scam. That means it's okay to like belittle her.

[00:42:45] But listen, maybe you wouldn't fall for this scam. Everybody could fall for us. And like a scam at any, they're scams that everyone is able to fall for a scam. And I think it's really important to recognize that and be vigilant because if you think, oh, I'll never fall for a scam, then you're the one who is not going to be using your brain and you will fall for a scam.

[00:43:10] And then you will feel so horrible and be subject to people mocking you because for whatever reason, victims of scams don't get seen as like actual victims of crime. They get seen as like people who did it to themselves. They didn't do it to themselves. They're victims of a crime. And here's the thing. Right now, we are young enough to like understand. But when we get older, God knows what is going to happen, right? Like it's technology is only going to grow. Exactly.

[00:43:39] It's and get better and more able to to trick people. Right. Just like, don't piss me off with that shit. But yeah, just be careful, y'all. Make sure your parents aren't falling for this shit. Yeah. Like when we were in India, he would like, because we were together then. He's like showing me, oh, did you see this video? I was like, that's literally AI. Like, stop. But what's that number?

[00:44:08] The number of like AI generated images and videos I see shared on Facebook of like people who think they're real is so scary. It's so bad. And again, being kind of dumb or making a dumb decision is not illegal. It's like people, people are dumb all the time. I do dumb shit all the time. Same.

[00:49:14] but I feel like I'm in prison and I'm in this place where the people that are in their, like 90s, maybe 80s, 70s are there. Like that's where they've kind of kept her. Oh my God. Yeah. And, um, she's saying that she's like limited in what she can say legally, but there's something wrong with these people here on this floor. And what do I think about being abused? I guess. Cause she got asked that question. Look, the system is broken. The system I'm in,

[00:49:43] the system is falsified a lot. And, um, and, she's given pills that she's saying she has no idea what they're for. And like, the thing is, is it's like, obviously there's a lot of complications. If someone is in, you know, a medical ward for a cognitive issue or a type of dementia, right? Like that is scary. And I'm sure there are things that would happen in a medical sense of having medicine and you don't know what it's for. And that kind of thing that will come along with that diagnosis.

[00:50:14] Correct. However, I'm sorry. How does your bank get to decide and put you under a consideration? I guess the financial abuse part. Cause you have access to her record. At that point. Shouldn't it be like, let's make sure you have like a proper safe person. Right. A power of attorney to take care of you. And also, I'm sorry. Wells Fargo doesn't give a fuck about anybody.

[00:51:42] She also has a son, at least one son. So I'm very confused. I am. So. Confused. Like, regardless of what's going on with her medically, she deserves to have dignity. Right. And banks, I'm sorry, banks don't get to be in charge of people's medical stuff. Period. Like that just should not be. She like does not look good.

So a year ago, almost her team had shared like a state, an update about hers, her diagnosis. And they even said like, this affected her. Um, and it's like. Affecting her ability to process information, losing words, having difficulty understanding financial transactions,

[00:53:12] which again, if that's true, why can't we get her a nurse? You know what I mean? And like all these. Like, you don't need to put, I don't know. We put under a conservatorship. I won the conservatorship pissed me off so much because we see them being used time and time again to like trap and victimize women. And meanwhile, men get to like be mentally ill and nothing happens. And I'm not saying that something should happen to mentally ill men.

[01:08:38] Okay. Oh my. So there's one couple that we're going to call the Joneses. Okay. And the Joneses have caused quite a bit of a stir. All right. So at this holiday party, they played white elephant, which for people that aren't aware or maybe don't know the name white elephant, that's like everyone brings a gift and then people take turns unwrapping gifts. And then you can like steal other people's gifts and swap with them kind of thing. It's like that, but they did it,

[01:09:06] I think in that episode of the office as well. Yeah. I mean, it's been everywhere. It's like, it's everywhere. Everyone's seen it, but maybe people don't know what's called white elephant. I don't know. A hundred percent. And I think people call it dirty Santa as well. Right? Like there's a, Oh, I've never heard that one. I'm sure you didn't make it up. I'm sure that that's a thing as well. I just haven't heard it. And so like, something to know about white elephant is typically, if you're going to play it, it will be like, everyone brings a joke present or everyone brings a present worth it. Like it, it needs to be clearly communicated.

[01:09:36] Which one type of gifts and what type of white elephant gift exchange you're doing. And this was not, it was not communicated. So, you know, some people do like funny or stupid gift. Some people do whatever you have lying around the house type gifts. And some people do like actual nice things people would want. So there was a mix of all three types of gifts at the party because it wasn't communicated. Oh, and so the Karen Jones, uh,

[01:10:05] her gift that she opened was a mullet of the month calendar. And she threw a fit. I'm literally like, this is so funny to me. Oh my God. especially like funny calendars. I love so much for several years in a row. Uh, my sister bought me a nuns having fun calendar, which is like nuns bowling, nuns on the swings, nuns at the beach. Like, like, have I ever shared this one?

[01:10:35] No. What is that? Friend of the pod who we talked about with Kwee, but made me a calendar and it's us. And it's all the podcasts like we have done. And it thought is so cute. Yeah. So, and then obviously now it's, this is from 2022, but I just think it's so funny. Oh, that's hilarious. So yeah, it's all the pods we've done. Cause I finally, we've done 12. I can do a calendar. Oh my gosh.

[01:11:04] I love that so much. Um, but yeah, so it was a mullet of the month calendar. And she threw a fit. Eventually someone just felt bad for her and stole it from her so that she could get a different gift. And it's like, no, that person did not feel bad for her. That person was sick of hearing her bitch and moan about a mullet of the month calendar. Yeah, of course. Um, and so the gifts that Karen ultimately got was like a pack of dish towels.

[01:11:29] And a candle that our messenger had had lying around and just combined into a white elephant gift. Oh my God. Um, Karen Jones even texted our messenger a few days after the party to say, thank you for bringing something actually worth grabbing and make thinly veiled jabs at their friends whose gifts didn't match her standards. Oh my God. So there's only one more thing. So at the end of the gathering,

[01:11:58] when everyone's kind of getting their coats, getting ready to leave and go home, the hosts are thanking everyone in the entry. Like, thanks for coming. This was so fun. Um, and one of the hosts goes, oh, we'll have to do this again next year. And Mr. Jones says, or not. Oh, everyone. Several people heard him and it was so awkward. Yeah. And so our messenger says something tells me their invite will get lost next year. Okay. Thank you.

[01:12:27] But then it's going to be so funny because then they're going to be so pissed that they didn't get invited. Yeah. It's going to be drama again. You would rather, because you're going to have drama regardless with people like this. So then it should be drama where you also protect your peace. Period. That's how I feel. First of all, I don't know. As someone whose love language is gift giving, like you always can ask if it, what kind of white elephant, like Karen. Well, I mean, I also, I think it's just like, they should specify.

[01:12:57] Yes. They should just specify. Right. Um, but also one of our, our friends, um, I won't name their names, asked me like help. Uh, one of our podcast friends asked me for help on like a, um, again, gift exchange. And that's mess because that person didn't realize the, the gift, the gift receiver didn't realize they had signed up.

[01:13:24] So I don't remember that our friend got a gift because of this. Oh no. Or something or, or that like that person didn't get a gift, but thankfully the gift was generic enough that anyone could have received it. Oh Lord. Okay. That's interesting. Um, but yes, thank you to our messenger for sharing the story. That was, I love this type of low stakes drama. It's exactly what. Anonymous was designed to like,
