[00:00:53] [SPEAKER_00]: So shopify.de-try.

[00:00:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Made for Germany.

[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Powered by Shopify.

[00:01:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Hi, I'm Kirsten.

[00:01:16] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm Tori.

[00:01:18] [SPEAKER_01]: This is Mess Magnets.

[00:01:20] [SPEAKER_01]: That's right.

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Back again.

[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Sasha is away for work this time, not for fun.

[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Although I hope she's having lots of fun while she's away.

[00:01:32] [SPEAKER_01]: She did a great job with Chappelle last week breaking down all the shitty news.

[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Cardi B stuff was so much fun to listen to.

[00:01:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And Chappelle, just watch out.

[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Your Kirsten impression was not...

[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_01]: You are on notice.

[00:01:52] [SPEAKER_01]: That's okay.

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: It's another week.

[00:01:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And Tori from Ready to be Petty and Ready to be Romanced is here filling in.

[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure y'all already know her because you're faithful messengers who've listened

[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_01]: to every episode of this podcast.

[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_01]: But in case anybody hasn't, Tori, do you want to let people know what you're doing

[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_01]: over in your podcasts?

[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, totally.

[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_02]: It's really hard to follow a Chappelle Sasha podcast.

[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no.

[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_01]: We're different, but we are also agents of chaos.

[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_02]: True, true.

[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_02]: And looking at this outline, it is going to be messy, which I'm very excited for.

[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_02]: But yes, I'm Tori.

[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_02]: I host Ready to be Petty and Ready to be Romanced.

[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Over on Ready to be Petty, we're actually this week I'm covering the Sally Rooney,

[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers fleabag roadmap, which is really fun.

[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_02]: It's wild.

[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_02]: So basically, if people don't know all of those people plus more are connected through

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_02]: work or dating or whatever, there's like a little Gyllenhaal side and all of that.

[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_02]: And so diving into that, which is really fun.

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_02]: And then Ready to be Romanced, my episode with my friend Mariah about My Lady Jane

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_02]: will be out probably when this one is out.

[00:03:14] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just crazy that you're having repeat guests on Ready to be Romanced.

[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I haven't been asked back, but you know what?

[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.

[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_02]: No, we covered Book Lovers by Emily Henry a few months ago.

[00:03:32] [SPEAKER_02]: And I was actually going to say because you slid into my DMs when I was doing a call out

[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_02]: for guests, but I was like, I feel like we should cover like Funny Story or something.

[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, yeah, the Emily Henry train going.

[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm literally begging for a reason to reread Funny Story.

[00:03:49] [SPEAKER_01]: So it works for me.

[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Have you read it yet?

[00:03:53] [SPEAKER_02]: No.

[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.

[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Can't wait.

[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Love this for us.

[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_01]: This is going to be wonderful.

[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Love it.

[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, so that's what Tori has going on.

[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Definitely go check out her pods and support her because she is one of the girlies.

[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_01]: She is part of the roadmap.

[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Go and support her and follow her everywhere.

[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Not yet, because first we have to get through our Mess Magnets episode,

[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_01]: which is I think going to be so fun.

[00:04:21] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm so excited for this first story because I think this is now

[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_01]: the second animal related story we've ever covered on the podcast.

[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And you've been here before.

[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_02]: I was just going to say, and I've also been at the scene of the crime.

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_02]: It's so funny.

[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_02]: So if people don't remember because this was again, this would have been like.

[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_02]: This was literally years ago.

[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, two years ago.

[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_02]: But we covered that elephant that was mad that like ran through like a funeral.

[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Is that even right?

[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, no, it was like the old woman had like wronged the elephant.

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Right, right.

[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Murdered the woman and then came back to mess with the funeral.

[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Like true petty icon status.

[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_01]: It's another animal related story, but it's not so petty.

[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_01]: It's so wholesome.

[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, hopefully we'll stay wholesome.

[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_01]: But so far so wholesome and great.

[00:05:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And it is about the baby pygmy hippopotamus, Mudang, who is in Thailand

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_01]: and has become like the main character of the Internet.

[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_01]: The last, I don't know, like week and a half, two weeks.

[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_02]: OK, so to be honest, I don't know if this is going to upset a lot of people

[00:05:32] [SPEAKER_02]: because like people that like animals like.

[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_02]: So intense, I don't know.

[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's a good thing, but like usually like I don't care about animal stories.

[00:05:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Like the petty elephant was really funny.

[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_02]: But like if it's like a cute animal, I'm like, oh, and then like I keep scrolling.

[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Mudang is actually like I'm obsessed with them.

[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Like I love her.

[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Like I stop at every meme.

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_02]: I read every tweet.

[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_02]: I watch every TikTok.

[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Like she really is a star.

[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I was so scared of what you were about to say, but I mean, that's fine.

[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm an animal lover and I watch a lot of animal content.

[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_01]: But there's a reason why this is only the second animal story on Mess Magnets, right?

[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_01]: They don't all reach the level of pop culture zeitgeist to be talked about.

[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think Mudang is way bigger than the petty elephant ever was.

[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_01]: So Mudang is perfect.

[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_01]: She's so cute.

[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_01]: And she was born on July 25th and got started posting on social got posted on social media

[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_01]: accounts, including at Camu Dot and the Gang, which is Camu is the name of one of the older

[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_01]: hippos at the zoo that she was born at.

[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_01]: And immediately everyone is obsessed with Mudang.

[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_01]: She has a personality.

[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_01]: She keeps biting people.

[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Perfect.

[00:07:00] [SPEAKER_01]: And the naming, she was named because they did a naming contest.

[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And so what Mudang means in English is bouncy pork.

[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.

[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:07:12] [SPEAKER_02]: She's just so relatable.

[00:07:14] [SPEAKER_02]: I saw a tweet that was like moisturized, like eating, like staying in my lane.

[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, being my ally.

[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yes, yes.

[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, yeah, she really just is one of us.

[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_02]: OK, so she's like two months old and she can't eat solid food yet, but she's always trying to

[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_02]: just pretend to eat food with her mom, which is so cute.

[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, she bites people.

[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_02]: And she.

[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Like people have done her astrology chart, just like has really taken the Internet by storm.

[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Literally obsessed with her.

[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_01]: One of my favorite things is Sephora Thailand did an ad.

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yes.

[00:07:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Where you're blushed like a baby hippo and was showing all of the little like

[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_01]: liquid blushes that could give you that soft glow in a color as close to Mudang's sweet pink

[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_01]: cheeks as possible.

[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Like this girl already has brand deals like she's killing it.

[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Everywhere she is the moment and it hasn't been all good news because people do unfortunately suck.

[00:08:25] [SPEAKER_01]: And so obviously the minute she starts getting posted on social media,

[00:08:29] [SPEAKER_01]: people are going to the zoo.

[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_01]: They want to go visit.

[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_01]: They want to see her in person.

[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And there was a rush of visitors.

[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_01]: They were behaving badly.

[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_01]: They were throwing things at her and had to be informed not to.

[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_01]: So now if you want to see Mudang in person,

[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_01]: there are restricted five minute windows during the week available to visit her in person

[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_01]: because people can't be trusted because they're horrible.

[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_01]: But they are setting up a Mudang live stream.

[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_01]: So soon we'll all be able to just like see what she's doing at any given time.

[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Like big brother, but make it Mudang.

[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I love it.

[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm obsessed.

[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, those are live feeds that I can like commit to.

[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, she's so cute.

[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_02]: I love her bouncy pork.

[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Like I just she's so fun to watch.

[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it's I don't know what this trend of people throwing water bottles and stuff

[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_02]: at like celebrities when they're performing like singers and then animals.

[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_02]: It just makes no sense to me.

[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_01]: And what have we said on this podcast many times?

[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Stop throwing things at people.

[00:09:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Just don't do it.

[00:09:34] [SPEAKER_01]: There's just no reason to do it.

[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_02]: I just don't get the thrill of that.

[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I like I understand.

[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_01]: I kind of understand like at Reading and Leeds Festival,

[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_01]: it's kind of a thing where people will get like beer bottles thrown at their head.

[00:09:48] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's like you shouldn't do it.

[00:09:50] [SPEAKER_01]: But at least I'm like, okay, you hate this person so much.

[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_01]: You want to injure them.

[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_01]: But like a water.

[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't get it.

[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't get it at all.

[00:09:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Tori, have you seen this Bustle article that says

[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Hailey Bieber 11 products that will give you that glass skin mudang glow?

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_02]: 100%.

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_02]: And it's so funny how she's infiltrated just like the zeitgeist right now,

[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_02]: because I just showered and put on like the La Roche-Posay Cicoplast.

[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_02]: And I literally thought in my head, like I'm looking glassy like mudang.

[00:10:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Wait, I'm wanting to buy the Cicoplast.

[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I literally had it in my hand and then I didn't buy it.

[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I don't know if it's actually for my needs.

[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_01]: But if it's Tori approved, I'm going to proceed.

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_02]: It's truly everything to me.

[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_02]: It was like my beauty product of the year last year.

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_02]: And it's like non-conomogenic or whatever the F that is.

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_02]: So I think it's...

[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, thank you.

[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_02]: So I think it's for everybody.

[00:10:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, amazing.

[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_01]: One thing I will say about this Bustle article is that

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_01]: it's a mixture of makeup and skincare products.

[00:11:00] [SPEAKER_01]: So I think that's a big fail.

[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_01]: It should have all been skincare.

[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Totally, totally.

[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Like why are you putting the Rode glazing milk

[00:11:09] [SPEAKER_01]: next to the e.l.f. Halo Glow liquid filter?

[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.

[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_01]: And why is the e.l.f. Halo Glow above the Chanel glow stick?

[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_01]: That is something we're adding up over at Bustle.

[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_01]: But I guess we can't expect everyone to have perfect taste like we do.

[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Literally, literally.

[00:11:31] [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like we could have made this list and we would have done better.

[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_02]: But literally, where's the snail mucin?

[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yes.

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_01]: The COSRX, like come on.

[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Where is the rice serum?

[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Not enough.

[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, not enough Asian skincare for an article about a hippo in Thailand.

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_02]: 100%.

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like they really are on their A-game.

[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_02]: So we also need to.

[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_02]: But I also would cosign the Jones Road Miracle Balm on this list.

[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I've been interested in Paracone MD, but it's so pricey that I'm like,

[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't even try it on a sale because I'll fall in love.

[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And then my lifestyle doesn't actually meet that minimum price requirement.

[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's a no from me.

[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, really not that much to say about Mooding,

[00:12:27] [SPEAKER_01]: except she's adorable.

[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Go look her up.

[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Some of my favorite posts about her is I saw someone tweet like,

[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_01]: if you fuck with Mooding, but you don't fuck with other hippos,

[00:12:37] [SPEAKER_01]: you're no better than Leonardo DiCaprio.

[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Really?

[00:12:43] [SPEAKER_01]: That's so funny.

[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_01]: And true.

[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_01]: OK, adult hippos are cute, too.

[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_01]: And she has officially been able to get out of the water

[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_01]: onto land by herself with no help.

[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's great progress for her development.

[00:12:56] [SPEAKER_01]: But we just needed to talk about this so that we could name the episode

[00:13:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Mess Dang because I'm a child.

[00:13:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Love it.

[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_01]: OK, shall we talk about the next story, which is not quite so few?

[00:13:15] [SPEAKER_02]: I know.

[00:13:16] [SPEAKER_02]: I know we're going from like fun, light, like cheery to like kind of sad.

[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_01]: And so this people might have seen last week.

[00:13:25] [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of clips are coming out of Hayden Pinichier did an interview with people.

[00:13:31] [SPEAKER_01]: And it was a lot of comments about kind of slurring her speech a little bit,

[00:13:37] [SPEAKER_01]: not really seeming to be at her top best.

[00:13:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And of course, the Internet went rampant speculating about it.

[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_01]: And now this week she's had to go on like a full press tour

[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_01]: of explaining what was going on with her.

[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_02]: And she did explain.

[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_02]: So she said that she hadn't slept for two days because one of her dogs was

[00:14:05] [SPEAKER_02]: recovering from an emergency surgery and then she had just done an eight hour shoot.

[00:14:12] [SPEAKER_02]: So she was really tired.

[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_02]: And then she was starting to do this like sit down interview.

[00:14:19] [SPEAKER_02]: And she was just like exhausted.

[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_02]: And she said that the person she was with, her rep, like stopped the interview.

[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_02]: And because I think that they could see that it wasn't going well.

[00:14:31] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, what do you think about this?

[00:14:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, this is wild.

[00:14:37] [SPEAKER_01]: So for the people that haven't watched it, honestly, don't watch this interview.

[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like really sad.

[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_01]: She's obviously not at her best.

[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_01]: And regardless of the reasons for that, like, I don't know.

[00:14:51] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just not our business to see someone who's like really not doing great.

[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_01]: But the interview, they start talking about her brother who passed away and

[00:15:02] [SPEAKER_01]: her relationship with her children.

[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_01]: And so it starts getting kind of heavier.

[00:15:07] [SPEAKER_01]: But like what I think is crazy is she go like they asked, hey, can we do this on another day

[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_01]: or do a follow up interview on Zoom?

[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_01]: And the interviewer said, no, not necessary.

[00:15:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Like this was an emotional and heartfelt interview.

[00:15:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Like it's all good.

[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to edit it.

[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be beautiful.

[00:15:26] [SPEAKER_01]: No problem.

[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_01]: But even more so, I was shocked that People magazine does not grant approval for images

[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_01]: or video interviews from celebrities before they run.

[00:15:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Like how is People one of the main like, quote unquote, legitimate sources of celebrity news?

[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And they won't even give celebrities the opportunity to approve a photo

[00:15:47] [SPEAKER_01]: when it's like an open interview.

[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that was wild to learn because People is a lot of people's a lot of people's

[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_02]: go to for interviews.

[00:16:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Like also even Taylor Swift, like Tree Paine, puts a lot of like official statements.

[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_02]: You'll like see the sources say, but it's it's Miss Tree Paine.

[00:16:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Into people.

[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_02]: And so I was really surprised that the celebrities don't get the final cut.

[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_02]: And I just also think like, I think like the bigger picture,

[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_02]: obviously, I want Hayden to be doing well.

[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_02]: She's had a rough couple years with her ex and her child and her brother passing away

[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_02]: and stuff like that.

[00:16:34] [SPEAKER_02]: But so I want her to be OK.

[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_02]: But like also systemically, I was like just thinking like we really have

[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_02]: reached such a low point in celebrity culture that it's like, well, I'll post this.

[00:16:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Not because like like this interview where the person is obviously unwell,

[00:16:54] [SPEAKER_02]: just for like clicks and all these articles that are coming out like secondary.

[00:17:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, and in Hayden's statement, she also says that the interview started out really well,

[00:17:09] [SPEAKER_01]: but the beginning of the interview was not included in the version that got posted.

[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't even show that there was like a deterioration of how well Hayden was doing

[00:17:19] [SPEAKER_01]: over the course of the interview.

[00:17:21] [SPEAKER_01]: So it literally just looked like she was really not doing good.

[00:17:24] [SPEAKER_01]: And they they use that for clout in a really gross way.

[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know, maybe because Hayden Panettiere isn't as famous as she once was,

[00:17:33] [SPEAKER_01]: maybe they don't feel like they have to run things by her team.

[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_01]: And maybe Taylor Swift would get different care with people.

[00:17:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but I don't care.

[00:17:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I just don't understand why this was allowed to be posted.

[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_01]: And thankfully, I'm on the side of the Internet and on TikTok where my algorithm has not really

[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_01]: included anyone being mean about this.

[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Just like where was her publicist?

[00:18:00] [SPEAKER_01]: What is going on at People magazine?

[00:18:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Why was this posted?

[00:18:05] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just so insanely personal for a person that we do not know.

[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_02]: 100%.

[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_02]: And like, just also thinking about the work conditions that she had endured that day.

[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_02]: We just had a year of strikes to kind of have better workers compensation and

[00:18:25] [SPEAKER_02]: rates included and shorter days and stuff like that.

[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm just like, where is any of that?

[00:18:31] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it's really...

[00:18:37] [SPEAKER_02]: It's unfortunate when it doesn't seem like anyone's looking out for her.

[00:18:43] [SPEAKER_01]: 100%.

[00:18:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And just the fact that she's had no sleep, a really tough day, worked all day,

[00:18:52] [SPEAKER_01]: and then goes to an interview and they're immediately like,

[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_01]: yes, let's ask you questions about your brother who passed away not that long ago.

[00:18:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I think even if she had no issue, it would be a big problem.

[00:19:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:19:11] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's also really...

[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe people don't have this context as well, but

[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Hayden Panettiere has been really open in the past about issues that she's had

[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_01]: with alcoholism and mental health struggles, specifically postpartum depression.

[00:19:30] [SPEAKER_01]: A few years ago.

[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_01]: And so for this to be happening and everyone immediately assumes that she's on medicine

[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_01]: or that she's on drugs is like, extra invasive.

[00:19:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Totally.

[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_02]: But I think that that unfortunately, yeah, is a part of the discourse around celebrities.

[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_02]: And again, especially if that was the case, why would you post that?

[00:20:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Like it's so disrespectful.

[00:20:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's just not professional.

[00:20:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Like whatever industry you're in, it's just not professional.

[00:20:11] [SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't come across well, in my opinion.

[00:20:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Totally.

[00:20:14] [SPEAKER_02]: And this could hurt her getting future jobs.

[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_02]: In addition to just all of this stress that she's under, this is probably not helping.

[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_01]: 100%.

[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_01]: It's stuff like this, which is why celebrities do stuff like have their babies in secret.

[00:20:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Like John Mulaney and Olivia Munn just announced that they had a second baby

[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_01]: a couple of weeks ago.

[00:20:41] [SPEAKER_01]: We didn't even know that that was coming.

[00:20:45] [SPEAKER_01]: So I understand why celebrities hide a lot of things.

[00:20:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Totally.

[00:20:54] [SPEAKER_02]: That's wild too.

[00:20:55] [SPEAKER_02]: If they like, I know that there's tons of reasons why people opt for

[00:20:59] [SPEAKER_02]: surrogacy or maybe that's their only option.

[00:21:02] [SPEAKER_02]: But it's wild to think that celebrities might even choose that just on the basis to not

[00:21:10] [SPEAKER_02]: have to tell people.

[00:21:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Which is just wild.

[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Like basically taking over someone else's body for 10 plus months.

[00:21:23] [SPEAKER_01]: So that you can have privacy.

[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but so OK, that's that's the sad downer story.

[00:21:33] [SPEAKER_01]: But then now we can move on to more happy things, which is always good.

[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I know you're a carpenter.

[00:21:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I'm a carpenter.

[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_02]: And actually, it's so funny because you just asked me, do I want to go on this short and

[00:21:51] [SPEAKER_02]: sweet tour?

[00:21:52] [SPEAKER_02]: I was going to say sweet and sour tour.

[00:21:57] [SPEAKER_01]: He and Olivia Rodrigo co-headline.

[00:22:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly, exactly.

[00:22:02] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, I don't think so.

[00:22:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, I'm not like, I don't know, like I'm just not huge into concerts.

[00:22:10] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm like.

[00:22:12] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm a carpenter, but like, I don't know, she's not like my number one or anything like that.

[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_02]: After seeing last night's show, I was like, oh, my God, this looks like the best time.

[00:22:25] [SPEAKER_01]: It looks amazing.

[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_01]: So the short and sweet tour kicked off last night, September 23rd.

[00:22:32] [SPEAKER_01]: And we just have some headlines because the pop girlies do be caring about this.

[00:22:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I guess if you care about spoilers for the Sabrina Carpenter short and sweet tour and

[00:22:42] [SPEAKER_01]: you're going to see it and you don't want to know what's coming, please skip to the next

[00:22:45] [SPEAKER_01]: story because we're going to talk about spoilers for the tour.

[00:22:48] [SPEAKER_01]: So this is your chance to leave.

[00:22:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Three, two, one, go.

[00:22:53] [SPEAKER_01]: OK, so Sabrina Carpenter is giving away a pair of fuzzy handcuffs during the show to a fan,

[00:23:00] [SPEAKER_02]: which is crazy.

[00:23:02] [SPEAKER_02]: She's so funny.

[00:23:03] [SPEAKER_02]: I was curious.

[00:23:04] [SPEAKER_02]: OK, yeah, so like she's doing I don't actually know is this 50s, 60s, 50s, 60s?

[00:23:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Like what is her like reference point?

[00:23:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like it's 60s, 70s lingerie vibes.

[00:23:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so the things I'm curious about, so it's like very like sex positive, like definitely

[00:23:29] [SPEAKER_02]: like lots of pink, lots of like you're saying fuzzy lace, like all of that stuff.

[00:23:35] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm thinking like, is this going to be an era or do you think that this is she's going

[00:23:41] [SPEAKER_02]: to continue this style for the rest of her career?

[00:23:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't think she'll keep this style for her whole career because she is so young

[00:23:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and she's going to grow and change for sure.

[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think it's necessarily an era type thing.

[00:23:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I think this is very much the same vibes that she was giving during the emails.

[00:24:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't send album.

[00:24:05] [SPEAKER_01]: And like I like the looks are, I think, a little bit more grown up.

[00:24:09] [SPEAKER_01]: But I think that they're still the same type of stuff that she's been wearing on stage

[00:24:13] [SPEAKER_01]: for the past year.

[00:24:16] [SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.

[00:24:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that she's, I'm just, I think one day she'll probably grow out her bangs and

[00:24:22] [SPEAKER_01]: that'll be very crazy.

[00:24:23] [SPEAKER_01]: But other than that, I think she could change pretty much anything and it'd be fine.

[00:24:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's true because on her last tour, obviously was much smaller.

[00:24:32] [SPEAKER_02]: She wasn't as famous.

[00:24:34] [SPEAKER_02]: We got all those nonsense outros.

[00:24:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Everyone probably saw every single TikTok from every single show.

[00:24:42] [SPEAKER_02]: But she did have the big like Moulin Rouge heart on the stage and she was wearing the

[00:24:51] [SPEAKER_02]: platform heels and the short dresses, the go-go boots and stuff like that.

[00:24:58] [SPEAKER_02]: With this tour, like with the aesthetics, with the transitions, with the set design,

[00:25:05] [SPEAKER_02]: she is going like full tilt.

[00:25:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it is her first stadium tour, her first headlining.

[00:25:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, not her first headlining, her first stadium tour.

[00:25:14] [SPEAKER_01]: And so and it's sold out.

[00:25:16] [SPEAKER_01]: So she does have the opportunity to go a little bit more all out.

[00:25:21] [SPEAKER_01]: The songs are all from Emails I Can't Send and Short and Sweet, the most recent two albums.

[00:25:29] [SPEAKER_01]: And she does a surprise cover song every night.

[00:25:31] [SPEAKER_01]: She has a wheel that she spins to determine which surprise.

[00:25:35] [SPEAKER_01]: There's a couple of songs it could be and then the wheel determines what it will be.

[00:25:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Night one was a cover of Dancing Queen, which is iconic.

[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_02]: It seemed so fun.

[00:25:46] [SPEAKER_02]: And like, OK, this is like, again, super shady.

[00:25:49] [SPEAKER_02]: I have listened to Sabrina Carpenter since her Disney Channel albums.

[00:25:55] [SPEAKER_02]: And I always was like, OK, she's not the strongest singer, but that's OK.

[00:26:01] [SPEAKER_02]: She's like a pop queen.

[00:26:03] [SPEAKER_02]: And I really need to like eat my words because on these songs, like the Christina Aguilera,

[00:26:11] [SPEAKER_02]: What A Girl Wants, reimagining that they're doing and then

[00:26:17] [SPEAKER_02]: sang with Kacey Musgraves a few weeks ago and then doing these like one off songs.

[00:26:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I was like, oh, I like I really need to eat my words.

[00:26:26] [SPEAKER_02]: She sounds so good.

[00:26:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, did you hear her singing Hopelessly Devoted to You on the part of it?

[00:26:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like not.

[00:26:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she has pipes.

[00:26:36] [SPEAKER_01]: And speaking of the Christina Aguilera, What A Girl Wants, reimagining,

[00:26:40] [SPEAKER_01]: I actually saw a tweet going viral right before this where someone was basically being like,

[00:26:44] [SPEAKER_01]: why is Sabrina there?

[00:26:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Like she can't keep up with Christina, blah, blah, blah.

[00:26:48] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, no, she's not Christina Aguilera level.

[00:26:51] [SPEAKER_01]: She like she has pipes.

[00:26:52] [SPEAKER_01]: She's not Christina Aguilera level.

[00:26:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm not delusional.

[00:26:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Christina has one of like the

[00:26:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she's like a generational talent.

[00:27:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she's literally incredible.

[00:27:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I remember because my mom was a singer and she always was like,

[00:27:06] [SPEAKER_01]: oh, Christina is such a better singer, but I just like hate everything she does.

[00:27:11] [SPEAKER_01]: And I just I always remember that.

[00:27:13] [SPEAKER_01]: But like, obviously, when you're doing a song, a duet with someone

[00:27:18] [SPEAKER_01]: that's like rehearsed ahead of time and it's determined what you're going to do.

[00:27:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, Sabrina is not going to come out and try to like steal the scene from Christina Aguilera

[00:27:30] [SPEAKER_01]: who she couldn't steal it from anyways, even if she tried.

[00:27:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Like it just doesn't make sense.

[00:27:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Like who was it?

[00:27:37] [SPEAKER_01]: What was that Pussycat Dolls performance?

[00:27:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:27:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Like trying to take over.

[00:27:42] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like what?

[00:27:43] [SPEAKER_01]: She didn't do that?

[00:27:44] [SPEAKER_01]: No.

[00:27:44] [SPEAKER_01]: What are we doing here?

[00:27:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that was

[00:27:49] [SPEAKER_01]: People who say Sabrina is not a vocalist.

[00:27:51] [SPEAKER_01]: She's not like the vocalist.

[00:27:53] [SPEAKER_01]: She's certainly a vocalist.

[00:27:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Totally.

[00:27:56] [SPEAKER_02]: She's definitely improved over the years.

[00:27:59] [SPEAKER_02]: I think just also with like a lot of the Disney Channel's

[00:28:04] [SPEAKER_02]: albums I was listening to at the beginning, she was so young.

[00:28:08] [SPEAKER_02]: And also they like auto tune a lot and like all of that stuff.

[00:28:14] [SPEAKER_02]: So she's like definitely matured into her voice.

[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_02]: And she sounds so good.

[00:28:19] [SPEAKER_02]: So I love that.

[00:28:22] [SPEAKER_02]: I just really think like she just like with the Olivia Rodrigo stuff,

[00:28:30] [SPEAKER_02]: I think she kind of got a bad rap.

[00:28:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Probably I was piling on to that.

[00:28:35] [SPEAKER_02]: And I just think she's like really blossom.

[00:28:39] [SPEAKER_02]: I think she's like really funny.

[00:28:41] [SPEAKER_02]: I think she just like really gets it.

[00:28:42] [SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I'm loving this.

[00:28:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this album.

[00:28:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Me too.

[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_01]: And I've said it before and I'll say it again.

[00:28:54] [SPEAKER_01]: She does like the horny thing so well because it doesn't feel so earnest.

[00:28:59] [SPEAKER_01]: It's really tongue in cheek and funny.

[00:29:03] [SPEAKER_01]: So she's not doing the nonsense outros for the show.

[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's a whole thing where like when she's finishing singing nonsense,

[00:29:10] [SPEAKER_01]: she just like kind of goes into the stage and it's like,

[00:29:12] [SPEAKER_01]: oh, technical difficulty.

[00:29:14] [SPEAKER_01]: It's over.

[00:29:15] [SPEAKER_01]: And then they have like a recorded video of her to send everyone home.

[00:29:19] [SPEAKER_02]: That is so funny because yeah, she did all of the outros.

[00:29:25] [SPEAKER_02]: It's like what really more could she say at that point?

[00:29:29] [SPEAKER_02]: She did like two years of outros.

[00:29:31] [SPEAKER_02]: So I think that's totally fair and really smart.

[00:29:35] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, all of her transitions are so cute.

[00:29:37] [SPEAKER_02]: And she has that Christmas special coming up.

[00:29:40] [SPEAKER_02]: Like she's really just like, she's everywhere.

[00:29:44] [SPEAKER_02]: She performed at the VMAs a few weeks ago.

[00:29:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Like she just really is killing it.

[00:29:49] [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm stoked for her.

[00:29:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Like she's carved out a niche like you're right.

[00:29:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Like the horny, playful vibe.

[00:29:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Like it's different from other celebs that we've seen.

[00:30:03] [SPEAKER_01]: 100%.

[00:30:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I will say I'm now less interested in going now that I know there's no nonsense.

[00:30:09] [SPEAKER_02]: It is so funny.

[00:30:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.

[00:30:14] [SPEAKER_02]: I am happy.

[00:30:15] [SPEAKER_02]: It was like some of them were good.

[00:30:19] [SPEAKER_02]: But like after a while, I was like, okay, I'm good on the outros.

[00:30:23] [SPEAKER_01]: No, I never got over it.

[00:30:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm a child and that's okay.

[00:30:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I can accept it.

[00:30:29] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, congratulations to Sabrina Carpenter on her first stadium tour.

[00:30:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And we'll keep you posted on any other Carpenter related news over here on Mess Magnet.

[00:30:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, now we have a story that I literally texted you and I was like,

[00:30:49] [SPEAKER_01]: do not look at this because we need reactions live on the pod.

[00:30:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I only read the first little bit of it because I was like, no, no, no,

[00:30:57] [SPEAKER_01]: we need to like both experiences live together.

[00:31:00] [SPEAKER_01]: So a tweet has gone viral.

[00:31:02] [SPEAKER_01]: This was tweeted today by at Ray Lee Arts, R-A-Y-L-E-E Arts, Rachel Eaton.

[00:31:13] [SPEAKER_01]: That says, a thread about the Bridgerton Ball scam in Detroit that I and hundreds of others

[00:31:18] [SPEAKER_01]: spent $300 on.

[00:31:21] [SPEAKER_01]: And so first it's like a picture and you can see just like some people waiting in a hallway

[00:31:25] [SPEAKER_01]: in like fancy dresses.

[00:31:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.

[00:31:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Gorgeous.

[00:31:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, like girls are killing it.

[00:31:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:31:32] [SPEAKER_01]: It's turned out.

[00:31:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:31:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And so the first, the person does say for starters,

[00:31:37] [SPEAKER_01]: never go to an event that's being run by Uncle and Me.

[00:31:41] [SPEAKER_01]: They're disorganized, dishonest and will take your money guilt free.

[00:31:44] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's what Rachel Eaton has to say.

[00:31:47] [SPEAKER_01]: And so this event was originally planned for August.

[00:31:51] [SPEAKER_01]: It was canceled and rescheduled for September 22nd.

[00:31:54] [SPEAKER_01]: And this person ended up getting sick and couldn't go.

[00:31:58] [SPEAKER_01]: They did not provide refunds, nor did they respond to anyone's emails asking for one.

[00:32:02] [SPEAKER_01]: So at that point, this person knew she got scammed.

[00:32:04] [SPEAKER_01]: So this is what was said when it got canceled.

[00:32:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Dear gentle readers, if you have not received our email communication Thursday with a heavy heart,

[00:32:12] [SPEAKER_01]: we have to inform you that the Bridgerton themed ball has been rescheduled to September 22nd

[00:32:17] [SPEAKER_01]: and will now take place at the Harmony Club located at 311 East Grand River, Detroit, Michigan.

[00:32:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Due to unforeseen circumstances, Beacon Park, our original venue,

[00:32:25] [SPEAKER_01]: has canceled their event as of Tuesday evening.

[00:32:27] [SPEAKER_01]: This cancellation came after we had received approval from both the City of Detroit and

[00:32:31] [SPEAKER_01]: the Fire Marshal.

[00:32:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Beacon Park, in conjunction with the castle, was initially chosen to accommodate all of

[00:32:35] [SPEAKER_01]: our guests with a combined capacity of 10,000.

[00:32:39] [SPEAKER_01]: In light of this, we have secured a new larger venue that can comfortably accommodate all

[00:32:43] [SPEAKER_01]: attendees and more.

[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_01]: We apologize for any inconvenience, appreciate your understanding.

[00:32:47] [SPEAKER_01]: For detailed information regarding the change,

[00:32:48] [SPEAKER_01]: please refer to the last two slides of the attached document.

[00:32:52] [SPEAKER_01]: We will respond to all inquiries and send out further communication.

[00:32:55] [SPEAKER_01]: So obviously that didn't happen.

[00:32:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:32:58] [SPEAKER_01]: And so someone replied to a TikTok about this saying they originally tried having it at

[00:33:04] [SPEAKER_01]: my job and we had to cancel it because they wouldn't pay the remaining money to rent the

[00:33:09] [SPEAKER_01]: venue.

[00:33:09] [SPEAKER_01]: So it actually maybe got moved from Beacon Park because the people wouldn't pay for

[00:33:17] [SPEAKER_01]: the venue.

[00:33:18] [SPEAKER_04]: Mm hmm.

[00:33:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Then there's pictures from the news where people were waiting outside in the rain to

[00:33:25] [SPEAKER_01]: get into the overcrowded first floor of the venue.

[00:33:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And then once you got into the event, there was literally nothing to do.

[00:33:31] [SPEAKER_01]: So that picture of the people that I thought were waiting in a hallway.

[00:33:34] [SPEAKER_01]: No, that's the ball.

[00:33:35] [SPEAKER_01]: They were seated in a ballroom with seemingly no furniture at all.

[00:33:44] [SPEAKER_01]: They advertised live music.

[00:33:45] [SPEAKER_01]: It was one violin player, nobody else.

[00:33:49] [SPEAKER_02]: This is so bad.

[00:33:53] [SPEAKER_01]: It's really bad.

[00:33:56] [SPEAKER_01]: The backdrops and decor, very party city dollar general level.

[00:34:02] [SPEAKER_01]: This is so bad.

[00:34:05] [SPEAKER_01]: And so if you didn't have airdrop on your phone, it was like, how are you going to get

[00:34:09] [SPEAKER_01]: a picture?

[00:34:10] [SPEAKER_02]: That's so embarrassing.

[00:34:13] [SPEAKER_02]: OK, you guys, like the.

[00:34:14] [SPEAKER_02]: The backdrop is wrinkled.

[00:34:17] [SPEAKER_02]: And it's just it's like it's like a print of roses.

[00:34:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it looks so bad.

[00:34:24] [SPEAKER_02]: I've put together events that look better than this.

[00:34:27] [SPEAKER_02]: And then the seats like they have a photo set up for like a I guess a king and a queen

[00:34:33] [SPEAKER_02]: or something like that.

[00:34:35] [SPEAKER_02]: And two thrones, two thrones.

[00:34:38] [SPEAKER_02]: And it's like literally like ten fake roses and like one of those like fake red carpets

[00:34:47] [SPEAKER_02]: that you get from Party City when you're hosting like an Oscars party.

[00:34:52] [SPEAKER_01]: It's so, so, so bad.

[00:34:55] [SPEAKER_01]: So I guess there was food, but it did run out after one hour and some of that food was raw

[00:35:03] [SPEAKER_01]: and there was nobody working the event to pick up plates.

[00:35:06] [SPEAKER_01]: So you would just like see plates of people's leftovers sitting all around the venue and

[00:35:10] [SPEAKER_01]: no one was coming to get it.

[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and it's like it looks like kind of like paper plate situation like.

[00:35:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.

[00:35:20] [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't see any garbage cans either.

[00:35:22] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's not even like people could have taken care of their own trash like there was no

[00:35:26] [SPEAKER_01]: option given to them.

[00:35:27] [SPEAKER_02]: No.

[00:35:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Now this tweet is the one that drew my attention to it because someone quoted this tweet and

[00:35:34] [SPEAKER_01]: said, you will literally never guess what event this is talking about.

[00:35:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Because there was supposed to be dancing at the Bridgerton Balls and the dancing they

[00:35:46] [SPEAKER_01]: had was one woman dancing on a pole.

[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Like this is so funny to me like I think people assumed it'd be like the quadrill or whatever

[00:35:57] [SPEAKER_02]: they do.

[00:35:59] [SPEAKER_02]: No.

[00:36:00] [SPEAKER_01]: No.

[00:36:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Listen, she's very talented.

[00:36:04] [SPEAKER_02]: She's killing it.

[00:36:07] [SPEAKER_02]: I would have had fun but like this is not what the event you're going to for this.

[00:36:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Like imagine if we had shown up corsets and petticoats in like a big ass gown wanting

[00:36:18] [SPEAKER_01]: to live our Bridgerton fantasy and we show up and it's this.

[00:36:28] [SPEAKER_02]: It's so funny in like a red G string.

[00:36:33] [SPEAKER_01]: You string pole dancing at the Bridgerton Ball.

[00:36:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Like it's so funny like she's not even doing like a Bridgerton set.

[00:36:46] [SPEAKER_02]: What's so great?

[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Have you listened to this song for yourself?

[00:36:50] [SPEAKER_02]: No.

[00:36:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Because it's literally string music playing while this.

[00:36:55] [SPEAKER_02]: No, I can't.

[00:36:57] [SPEAKER_02]: I can't.

[00:36:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Should I do it?

[00:36:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Right now listen to it.

[00:37:00] [SPEAKER_02]: I am.

[00:37:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God.

[00:37:07] [SPEAKER_02]: It's um.

[00:37:09] [SPEAKER_02]: What's a um uh chant?

[00:37:12] [SPEAKER_02]: No, not chandelier.

[00:37:14] [SPEAKER_02]: It's a see is it a see a song?

[00:37:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh yes, um cheap thrills.

[00:37:20] [SPEAKER_01]: It's an instrumental of cheap thrills by Sia.

[00:37:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay let me see if I can get the audio of this to play on the podcast.

[00:37:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, please do.

[00:37:31] [SPEAKER_02]: And then there's just someone in the background saying I didn't see this in Bridgerton.

[00:37:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I'm adding it and hopefully y'all can hear this because it is set to share audio.

[00:37:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Let me set it back to the beginning.

[00:37:57] [SPEAKER_01]: It's so funny.

[00:38:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Now imagine you're listening to that and you're seeing it's like

[00:38:04] [SPEAKER_01]: so the pole that this woman is dancing on is like on wheels.

[00:38:08] [SPEAKER_01]: So I guess like they can like bring it in and move it because I

[00:38:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I guess it doesn't normally live in this ballroom.

[00:38:14] [SPEAKER_01]: And then it is a woman with a high ponytail that's like braided in literally a red,

[00:38:19] [SPEAKER_01]: brown g-string just like working.

[00:38:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Working.

[00:38:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Like it kind of looks like um Jasmine in the Aladdin movie when she's like.

[00:38:32] [SPEAKER_01]: When Jafar puts the spell on her like no when Jafar wishes for her when he has the genie.

[00:38:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like the hair is kind of giving that but I the venue does look beautiful.

[00:38:43] [SPEAKER_02]: I will give the scammers that one thing and hey they got the the dear gentle readers

[00:38:49] [SPEAKER_02]: and the soundtrack like spot on but I just I don't get this at all.

[00:38:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Like what was going through their head?

[00:38:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Like what were they thinking?

[00:39:00] [SPEAKER_01]: They wanted money.

[00:39:02] [SPEAKER_01]: This event also promised a cash prize to the best dressed which did not happen.

[00:39:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Said that they would choose a diamond of the season like they do in the Bridgerton show

[00:39:11] [SPEAKER_01]: and other Bridgerton inspired balls which did not happen.

[00:39:15] [SPEAKER_01]: And the itinerary had contradiction contradicting information in it.

[00:39:20] [SPEAKER_01]: And then the final tweet is that Rachel says I really hope this ends in a lawsuit because

[00:39:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I want my $300 back.

[00:39:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I have medical bills to pay and it could have gone towards something that wasn't this.

[00:39:31] [SPEAKER_01]: And they say before you call me gullible I know I am it's still not my fault don't scam people.

[00:39:36] [SPEAKER_02]: 100% and honestly the way like all of the things that she posted before I would have

[00:39:43] [SPEAKER_02]: been scammed too like it actually did look legit.

[00:39:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah I just want to be super clear now that I'm getting to the end of the thread so this

[00:39:52] [SPEAKER_01]: thread went viral by Rachel Eaton but she got all of her information from a TikTok of a woman

[00:40:03] [SPEAKER_01]: called at more of Nita M-O-R-E-O-F-N-I-T-A.

[00:40:08] [SPEAKER_01]: And so it looks like she this a black woman who was actually at the event so hopefully

[00:40:13] [SPEAKER_01]: she's going viral on TikTok to get money from TikTok because she actually went to the event

[00:40:22] [SPEAKER_01]: and talked about it.

[00:40:23] [SPEAKER_01]: It just went viral on Twitter because of Rachel's thread.

[00:40:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah it's so funny it's like the Willy Wonka haunted house thing in Scotland and

[00:40:34] [SPEAKER_02]: it just sucks.

[00:40:35] [SPEAKER_02]: I hate when people take advantage like obviously it sucks in any scam but like you know like

[00:40:42] [SPEAKER_02]: it's just I can just see all the Bridgerton fans like being so excited for this and it just sucks.

[00:40:49] [SPEAKER_02]: I feel so bad for them.

[00:40:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Like this could have been us I mean we probably wouldn't have paid $300

[00:40:54] [SPEAKER_01]: to go to a Bridgerton ball but like it could have been us easily.

[00:40:59] [SPEAKER_01]: No.

[00:41:00] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm thinking the event is going to be fake and especially if you pay that much you feel like

[00:41:05] [SPEAKER_01]: it's definitely going to be real.

[00:41:07] [SPEAKER_02]: 100% honestly if it came to the Empress where we live in Victoria I might actually go.

[00:41:12] [SPEAKER_02]: We paid $50 for like a 20-minute Taylor Swift quartet performance.

[00:41:17] [SPEAKER_01]: So true and there were fake fans in that audience.

[00:41:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah yeah 100% yeah I might go to this it's kind of like the ACOTAR

[00:41:32] [SPEAKER_02]: balls where it's like you see the TikToks and you're like I would never be caught dead there

[00:41:37] [SPEAKER_02]: but it's like if it came to my city like I actually would probably.

[00:41:40] [SPEAKER_01]: You would not go to an ACOTAR ball you are so much better than that.

[00:41:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately I'm probably not.

[00:41:47] [SPEAKER_01]: You are I wouldn't let you honestly I'm gonna put my foot down Tori you are grounded from

[00:41:52] [SPEAKER_01]: ever attending an ACOTAR ball.

[00:41:55] [SPEAKER_02]: No that's so fair yeah no it's like it's so embarrassing but like again I don't know.

[00:42:04] [SPEAKER_01]: You're grounded from it so it's awesome.

[00:42:07] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah so that is the Bridgerton ball scam which is

[00:42:10] [SPEAKER_01]: it seems like it might be a developing story like the event has happened

[00:42:14] [SPEAKER_01]: but I'm sure more people are going to share their stories and

[00:42:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna have to go back and watch Nita's TikTok

[00:42:21] [SPEAKER_01]: and see if there's any more details that we can update about and hopefully

[00:42:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Sasha is listening to this laughing because she's a fellow Bridgerton girly.

[00:42:29] [SPEAKER_02]: I know I know please update us next week too.

[00:42:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes if anything else comes out we will update.

[00:42:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay now it's time for some people's favorite part of the show

[00:42:43] [SPEAKER_01]: the anonymous so again if you're a new listener

[00:42:45] [SPEAKER_01]: this is where we read an anonymous gossip story from one of our listeners

[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and react and give advice and whatever is required based on the story itself.

[00:42:57] [SPEAKER_01]: People are always free to submit their anonymous mess pass

[00:43:01] [SPEAKER_01]: you can go to messmagnets.com and the link is right there for you super easy.

[00:43:10] [SPEAKER_01]: So we've got some family wedding mess which I thought would be good because

[00:43:15] [SPEAKER_01]: both of us have had family members get married in the last year so yeah to say

[00:43:21] [SPEAKER_01]: our messenger says it's not the messiest mess and it could still be developing

[00:43:25] [SPEAKER_01]: but would love for us to weigh in on some family drama.

[00:43:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Love it.

[00:43:30] [SPEAKER_01]: So a few months ago our messenger's cousin got married

[00:43:33] [SPEAKER_01]: and she had a destination wedding in Mexico.

[00:43:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Relatable content we've we've both done that.

[00:43:40] [SPEAKER_01]: We've both done that.

[00:43:41] [SPEAKER_01]: It was very expensive to travel stay at the hotel

[00:43:45] [SPEAKER_01]: and it was during the worst time of year where it was grossly rainy and

[00:43:49] [SPEAKER_01]: humid and poor weather quality so you couldn't really enjoy it as a vacation.

[00:43:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Literally half the days I was in Mexico.

[00:43:56] [SPEAKER_02]: It rained.

[00:43:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah we were there like tail end of hurricane season

[00:44:01] [SPEAKER_01]: we had like some crazy rainstorms so I listen I can relate to that.

[00:44:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Our messenger had just had a baby and the wedding was child free

[00:44:11] [SPEAKER_01]: so she left her husband at home with the kids and to the wedding in Mexico

[00:44:16] [SPEAKER_01]: she had to pump to maintain a supply of breast milk but obviously couldn't bring the milk back

[00:44:22] [SPEAKER_01]: home from Mexico so that's kind of a loss.

[00:44:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah that's and that's liquid gold.

[00:44:30] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean I think in Mexico she probably could have found people to sell that too.

[00:44:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like I mean here no I know I feel like anywhere you go you could have honestly sold.

[00:44:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean but maybe she was drinking so she had to pump a dump anyways we don't know her story.

[00:44:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Our messenger's sister also came to the wedding with her fiance.

[00:44:57] [SPEAKER_01]: The messenger's parents were supposed to come but were unable to in the end so

[00:45:04] [SPEAKER_01]: our messenger and her sister were the only cousin representation on their side of the family

[00:45:08] [SPEAKER_01]: because it was so expensive to go to this wedding.

[00:45:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah yeah I get it I get it.

[00:45:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah so now this is where the drama starts coming in

[00:45:17] [SPEAKER_01]: because our messenger's sister is getting married in a couple of months

[00:45:21] [SPEAKER_01]: and this cousin who just had everyone fly to Mexico is not coming to the wedding.

[00:45:28] [SPEAKER_01]: She is claiming that she is starting a big project at work and so she can't take the time off

[00:45:33] [SPEAKER_01]: because she's already taking time off at the holidays at the end of the year.

[00:45:36] [SPEAKER_02]: No.

[00:45:38] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's just to be noted our messenger's sister is getting married in their home city

[00:45:43] [SPEAKER_01]: which is also where their grandmother lives who in our messenger's opinion is not doing that well

[00:45:48] [SPEAKER_01]: so it like literally could be the last time they're all together as a family with their grandma in good health.

[00:45:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.

[00:45:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.

[00:45:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Which is like sad that's really sad.

[00:46:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Our messenger's sister and mother are kind of blase about it

[00:46:04] [SPEAKER_01]: because they kind of expected this cousin to not come

[00:46:06] [SPEAKER_01]: and to be honest they will probably have a better time without her at the wedding.

[00:46:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Yikes.

[00:46:15] [SPEAKER_01]: But our messenger's mother is embarrassed to talk to her brother about it

[00:46:21] [SPEAKER_01]: because it's like the elephant in the room when they chat and discuss wedding planning

[00:46:24] [SPEAKER_01]: that this cousin won't be coming.

[00:46:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And it should also be noted that this cousin was not the one to tell

[00:46:34] [SPEAKER_01]: our messenger's sister the bride that she wasn't coming and she never apologized for it.

[00:46:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Her mom told our messenger's mom and that's how the information was disseminated

[00:46:45] [SPEAKER_01]: even though they're all literally in their 30s.

[00:46:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Oof.

[00:46:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah I don't like that.

[00:46:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah so the wedding is on a Saturday and it's a three-hour flight for the cousin if she were to go.

[00:46:59] [SPEAKER_01]: So she might not even have to really take any time off

[00:47:01] [SPEAKER_01]: she could just fly after work on Friday and go home on on Sunday or Monday.

[00:47:06] [SPEAKER_01]: But what the messenger wants to know is

[00:47:09] [SPEAKER_01]: is she crazy for thinking it's messed up of her to do this

[00:47:12] [SPEAKER_01]: when everybody literally dragged themselves across the country for this destination wedding in Mexico?

[00:47:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:47:18] [SPEAKER_01]: And what do we think?

[00:47:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Should she call the cousin and drop a hint about like the grandma's health?

[00:47:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Or should she embarrass her and offer to put her up even though she could probably afford it

[00:47:31] [SPEAKER_01]: and is choosing not to?

[00:47:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Or should our messenger just shrug it off and know that they'll never be close anyway?

[00:47:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Literally no.

[00:47:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like it's like you already know you're not close with this cousin.

[00:47:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Like sometimes cousins are friends and sometimes cousins are not friends

[00:47:50] [SPEAKER_01]: and it seems like you are not friends with this cousin.

[00:47:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:47:52] [SPEAKER_01]: And this cousin sucks because she made everyone fly to Mexico

[00:47:55] [SPEAKER_01]: and she won't even travel for a weekend for someone who traveled for her.

[00:48:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Seems selfish.

[00:48:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:48:04] [SPEAKER_01]: But I also think it is insane to try and guilt people about your grandmother's health

[00:48:10] [SPEAKER_01]: because as you said it's in your opinion she's not doing well.

[00:48:14] [SPEAKER_01]: What do the doctors say?

[00:48:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Like what is it?

[00:48:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Like is she actually not doing well or is she just slowing down because she's getting older?

[00:48:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:48:23] [SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's like if your cousin missed the last time that you do see your grandma

[00:48:27] [SPEAKER_02]: that's on her conscience.

[00:48:29] [SPEAKER_02]: That's not on yours.

[00:48:30] [SPEAKER_02]: You did your due diligence and bad karma.

[00:48:33] [SPEAKER_02]: I believe in karma and like truly that will all come back around.

[00:48:39] [SPEAKER_02]: I also it's like don't put her up because if even if you're like

[00:48:44] [SPEAKER_02]: she won't accept this but I'll like embarrass her by offering to put her up.

[00:48:48] [SPEAKER_02]: It's like what about if she does accept?

[00:48:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Then you have to deal with her the weekend of the wedding and you're out a couple hundred dollars.

[00:48:56] [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's so funny.

[00:48:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Weddings just I hate weddings so much.

[00:49:02] [SPEAKER_02]: They just make the worst like people that are so normal

[00:49:08] [SPEAKER_02]: they just make people so like out of control

[00:49:11] [SPEAKER_02]: and like so stressed out and like people become bridezillas

[00:49:15] [SPEAKER_02]: even though it's like you know I hate that term obviously but like people

[00:49:21] [SPEAKER_02]: I like it because you said it.

[00:49:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I just feel like a lot of times the people that are deemed bridezillas

[00:49:29] [SPEAKER_02]: or because like are in hetero relationships and the man isn't doing anything

[00:49:33] [SPEAKER_02]: so it's all on one person and then they become a bridezilla because they're stressed

[00:49:38] [SPEAKER_02]: but like I don't know it's just like it happens to everybody.

[00:49:45] [SPEAKER_02]: I've never been I've only probably been to like maybe say like seven weddings

[00:49:49] [SPEAKER_02]: but it's like none of them have been stress-free.

[00:49:52] [SPEAKER_01]: That's a lot of weddings I feel.

[00:49:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah it probably is but I think it is seven.

[00:50:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I have been to three weddings as an adult and like maybe two when I was a kid.

[00:50:08] [SPEAKER_01]: But also like I had several friends who got married over COVID and like

[00:50:13] [SPEAKER_01]: like I would have been at Hailey Strong's wedding if it hadn't been COVID.

[00:50:17] [SPEAKER_01]: At least that's what I tell myself and when I told her that she was like

[00:50:20] [SPEAKER_01]: no you definitely would have been so I have to just touch that.

[00:50:25] [SPEAKER_02]: That's funny yeah I was invited to two COVID weddings so it could have been nine

[00:50:28] [SPEAKER_02]: but it's just seven and yeah I don't know I just it brings out the worst in people.

[00:50:34] [SPEAKER_02]: It's so stressful and people are so selfish like I totally think that people

[00:50:42] [SPEAKER_02]: expect you to come to theirs and you know buy the gift, buy the flight,

[00:50:48] [SPEAKER_02]: buy the hotel like that type of stuff but they like won't blink saying no to yours.

[00:50:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Like I don't know I feel like that happens a lot not saying it's right but it does I think.

[00:51:00] [SPEAKER_01]: I just what I can't get over is being like I want to guilt my cousin by saying our grandma's

[00:51:06] [SPEAKER_01]: gonna die like we're all gonna die one day but let this moment be what it is and don't borrow

[00:51:14] [SPEAKER_01]: the future grief of losing your grandma before you already have. It's not gonna make it any easier

[00:51:19] [SPEAKER_01]: when she actually does pass away and it's not gonna make you feel any better that you were

[00:51:24] [SPEAKER_01]: that you had this like gotcha on your cousin. I think you just have to go to your sister's wedding,

[00:51:29] [SPEAKER_01]: enjoy the day, celebrate your sister who you love and don't worry about someone who couldn't

[00:51:35] [SPEAKER_02]: be bothered to travel three hours. 100% especially because it's like

[00:51:42] [SPEAKER_02]: good riddance I think this person showed you like that they don't really care about

[00:51:49] [SPEAKER_02]: you know supporting your sister and stuff like that to a point where it's like

[00:51:54] [SPEAKER_02]: good riddance like truly like they're not being a really good family member and yeah I think it's

[00:52:03] [SPEAKER_02]: fair to um like expect that type of stuff to be reciprocal like I feel like families make kind of

[00:52:13] [SPEAKER_02]: like norms around weddings and yeah I don't know I hate that I hate that for you. Yeah agreed.
