[00:01:45] That was one of my crowning achievements, I would say. And I have come into this episode of the podcast much less prepared. Well, fortunately, fortunately and unfortunately, this episode of the podcast is pretty much oops all quick bites.

[00:02:02] So there's not really anything you need like a wealth of knowledge on. But we're here anyways. And hopefully the celebrities start celebritying more soon. Yeah, they seem to all be on summer vacation as well. And like, shouldn't they be out being messy?

[00:02:23] It feels weird that like Justin Timberlake is the only new mugshot we've seen recently. Yeah, like somebody should be kissing somebody they're not supposed to be in the south of Italy. I'm sure it's happening. I'm sure. Where are the photos?

[00:02:37] I want to see these celebrities in a blue tiled pool kissing someone they're not supposed to kiss. Or at a sushi bar. One specific sushi bar in LA. That specific sushi bar in a mall in LA.

[00:02:49] It's so funny when people see like the broader image of that sushi spot. I'm like, wait a second. It's in a mall? I love it. Listen, I'm not gonna knock in mall food. My favorite Chinese food comes from the food court at the mall.

[00:03:09] Sometimes food court food just hits. It never not hits, in my opinion. Sometimes it doesn't hit but like most of the time it hits and that's okay. It's fine. You're more of a foodie than me.

[00:03:24] So you definitely are getting like the premium options or I'm like, I guess I'll just have New York fries again. No, you know what? I had New York fries recently for the first time in probably 12 years. And it was so good. 12 years?

[00:03:41] Just because it's never there's the one in my closest mall is no longer there. And the one in in the closest now mall. They have a really good shawarma place which I like I often frequent or I was getting mall Chinese food there.

[00:03:56] That mall Chinese food is not as good. Of course, or we just go to like the Kelsey's outside of the mall. I miss Kelsey's has like really good garlic toast with their pasta. So I like always love getting pasta at Kelsey's.

[00:04:12] Anyways, that's enough for niche Canadian restaurant information for y'all. Before we get into it, I do just want to thank Maddie's dash mom for the five-star review on Apple podcast. She says I'm a cool mom and says thanks to Kirsten and Sasha.

[00:04:28] I'm able to understand all the random things my teenage daughters talk about without you two. I'd be lost on the drama between Drake and Lamar have no idea who Sabrina Carpenter is and so much more. Thank you Maddie's mom.

[00:05:11] It's all about so the first story today is it appears Margot Robbie is pregnant. She has like I mean kind of like a no-name husband really? Like I've seen all these articles. They're like, oh expecting with her husband Tom Ackerley who the hell is Tom Ackerley?

[00:05:36] I don't know but she always talks very positively about him which I appreciate. He's apparently also a film producer and actor. I've never seen him in anything. You know, and what's his IMDb page link? I'm looking I'm looking. Oh, he was a K Wade.

[00:05:53] He's an executive producer on saltburn a producer on Barbie a producer on the show doll face a producer on promising young woman.

[00:06:03] Okay. So it seems like he produces a lot of things that I do in fact like I have only seen Barbie some of the but I also feel like he is producing on a lot of things that Margo is also producing on. So that's interesting.

[00:06:20] Interesting love the wife to husband Nepo. But yeah, and so at first it wasn't really like a actual pregnancy announcement at all.

[00:06:32] It was just like some pictures of them on the street and she appeared to have a baby bump which is like not actually cool to speculate about. However sources have confirmed to people magazine that she is pregnant.

[00:06:46] It's her first baby with her husband so we can say it. Yeah, she looks super cute.

[00:06:54] Yeah, there's a lot of memes where it's like oh she works fast because the last of course the last line of the Barbie movie is Barbie saying I'm here to see my guy in a colleges. So I that made me laugh.

[00:07:07] But other than that, it's really just like congratulations to them. Hopefully everyone's healthy and happy. Love it. And those are the like Como photos I was looking for.

[00:07:22] I'm positive that it's like a nice like pregnant but we wanted more drama with it being like two people kissing who shouldn't be kissing. Yeah, exactly.

[00:07:31] Exactly. Like it's like okay cool a happily married couple is having a presumably planned baby is not like as exciting as you know, like three people all making out at the same time on the beach.

[00:07:47] So okay, I assume that you like me or like a big Sabrina Carpenter fan is that is that true? Yeah, I would say I'm like I'm, I did not try to get a pre sale code for her concert.

[00:07:59] But I do have her songs on my playlist that I put all my songs that I like to listen to on. Yeah, we're about the same level and then I did try to get tickets and of course we're all sold out.

[00:08:12] Unfortunately, I just knew they were going to be out of my budget and for some like she's not somebody who I'm a diehard for so she has a much lower level of me being willing to pay.

[00:08:25] Yeah, 100%. This is why concerts should all cost $50 I think it's like maybe like 100 if they're really famous. That's my boomer opinion. Yeah, you really can't see anybody for like $30 anymore like used to be able to.

[00:08:41] I've gone to concerts for like 20 bucks. And they were great shows, but whatever it's fine. So Sabrina Carpenter is now officially the first person to take the number one spot from themselves back and forth.

[00:08:55] Four times because please please please and espresso have just like, boop boop switch back and forth four times. If you only get to listen to one of these songs from here on out, which one are you picking?

[00:09:11] Not like on repeat forever but like if you had if for some reason one of these songs you had to never hear again, which one?

[00:09:20] Okay, so it's really hard because it's like what's more fun to sing along to? I'm working late because I'm a singer or don't you embarrass me motherfucker like that's so good too.

[00:09:37] I'm definitely a please please please girly. I mean, this is a difficult decision. This is a really difficult decision. I think I lean. Please, please, please, but that might just be because they came out more recently and I've heard espresso more times.

[00:09:54] Sure. That's tough. It's a tough situation. My thing is with like, please, please, please. I actually like understand what the lyrics are where espresso I just feel like I really have to sit and think about what she's saying to understand the purpose of the song.

[00:10:11] And I feel like music should be more vibe than me trying to understand the lyrics.

[00:10:17] That is extremely fair. I do feel like a lot of the pop girlies these days. Like they don't enunciate at all. And so you sit there and you're like, huh, like Ariana Grande's last album I sat there like maybe I'd like these songs a lot more like they're good like it's good pop songs but like maybe I like them better if I could understand a damn word she was saying.

[00:10:38] I did a full listen through of Ariana Grande's latest album, and I didn't add one single song to my playlist of rotating songs that I always listen to like not a single song. I don't think I like I took in a single lyric like like nothing stuck for me.

[00:10:55] Like I have yes and in my playlist, I would consider putting in we can't be friends but my life is fine. So for this like swapping number one back and forth with yourself the previous person was Drake who had done it three times, and I was going to look up what songs they were and then I decided I didn't want to because again if Drake has one hater. It's me. So that's fine.

[00:11:22] Yeah, if people want to look it up they can look it up themselves. Because that's what this podcast is about making people look things up themselves.

[00:11:31] Speaking of Drake taking L's the music video for Not Like Us came out this week as well, which has some pretty good Easter eggs in it. For example, there's like a scene where Kendrick is dressed as Drake in cell block one and he's doing push ups and he's only doing sets of 17 push ups because Drake would never want 18 plus of anything kind of vibe.

[00:12:05] for the specific diss track that I get here on TikTok because this one. This story just there's just some things I see it and I go there's no room in my brain for that I can't do a deep dive on it like it's just not going in there. And this whole situation was one of the things where I'm just like, this is this is not something I am taking in personally.

[00:12:28] I actually honestly, I recommend taking it in because it was so fun and messy and interesting and the song Not Like Us is like a banger song of the summer instantly added to my playlist of songs I listen to all the time.

[00:12:42] And like I did hear that he sang it like six times in a row at Yeah, a concert of some sort. Yeah, at the concert for Juneteenth in Compton. Sure, sure.

[00:12:55] Which I guess it's like a really big thing in rap to do the same song over and over again as your encore. I get it for like stylistically if I paid for a ticket for that I would be mad. Right?

[00:13:06] Like he's already done every other song it's like the bonus songs or he's doing it over and over and over again. That still seems wild to me.

[00:13:14] I think I don't know. I think I'd be fine with it. Like if at the end of Taylor Swift as she decided she was gonna do like Cruel Summer four more times I'd be like yeah, I'm here.

[00:13:24] I'm ready. I don't know if I could I which is absurd because I could listen to the same song, like on repeat. But if I'm like watching it live I don't I think I'd be like okay I guess this is time for me to leave.

[00:13:38] I guess that's your choice. I know. I didn't realize that was such a hot take. I don't think I don't think it's a hot take. I think that it's probably pretty genre specific. I guess so. That would be my guess.

[00:13:56] In even more music news. So Miley Cyrus and Calvin Harris were supposed to do like some sort of collab together. And now it's scrapped every tweet about it has been deleted. And I'm like, okay, wait but like what happened I assume he did something.

[00:14:22] Do you have any screenshots of the tweets like were they from Calvin and Miley or were they from like pop crave or were they from a production company? It was some so like Miley Nation tweeted on May 7. Ocean, Miley Cyrus, Calvin Harris coming soon wave emoji.

[00:14:42] And then pop crave tweeted on July 7. So of course, two months later saying that it's been scrapped. All of the social media teasers posted earlier may have been deleted. So yeah, I'd love to hear the background of that.

[00:15:03] I just have to assume he did something. I don't think surely it's not Miley's fault. I'd be interested to see if this is going to come out later with a different singer attached. Ooh, okay, so it's supposed to be called ocean.

[00:15:22] So we'll have to keep our eyes on that. Yeah, like has Calvin Harris made music in recent history? Um, not that I can think of at the tip of my noggin. But I also have been spending significantly less time in nightclubs than I used to. What?

[00:15:41] Back in like 2010 2011. Okay, he released an album of remixes this may called lovers in a past life. But then before that his most recent. Oh, he did. He's done some stuff in like 2022 2027. Huh? Yeah, he's really just not around as much as he used to be.

[00:16:19] I feel like if you and I went to the club, we'd be expecting like very specific songs based on like when we were in university, what would always play. Yeah. And we would not have that experience anymore in the club.

[00:16:32] And I would want to leave by at least 1030pm like leave for home not leave for the club. I know it's like oh we used to go out at 11pm. No, I want to be deep in my home shoe.

[00:16:44] Me me me me me's by then. We're old. We got old Haley. It ain't good. I'm so tired. I went to a concert like two weeks ago. And I was still recovering last week from having to stay out till 2am. Are you recovered now?

[00:17:04] I think so. I think so. But last week was tough. I was like, why am I so tired? Oh, because I went to a concert a full week ago. Literally, I'm, I'm worried about how I'm gonna feel after Taylor Swift. I'm worried about a lot of things.

[00:17:22] But I think it's gonna be fine. Everything's gonna be fine. We also have in like good music news. Kesha is officially an indie artist. She's free from Dr. Luke, all of that horrible stuff. She's finally able to make music. She owns all her new music.

[00:17:48] Her new single came out is called Joyride. It was released on Independence Day, which is very fitting because it's her being independent as an artist, obviously.

[00:18:00] And Spotify posted it as the cover to their new pop pics playlist, which Kesha posted saying my first song is a free woman on my record label for spot WTF I'm sobbing. Thank you for the support. I just can't even have you heard this song yet?

[00:18:14] I haven't but I'm looking forward to it. I have really enjoyed the music Kesha has come out with in the last few years was praying and her other song not independent like I thought she was out of her contract for those songs.

[00:18:30] I'm pulling up the info to get everything specific. So she had a five album contract that she had to fulfill in order to be fully free.

[00:18:46] And so everything she released through her 2023 album gag order was with her old contract. Obviously the lawsuits for anyone who doesn't know, there's a series of lawsuits that are known collectively as Kesha v Dr. Luke.

[00:19:09] And it's like extremely, extremely heavy content. But basically Kesha accused Dr. Luke of physical, sexual and emotional abuse and Dr. Luke claimed breach of contract and defamation, which was ultimately settled out of court.

[00:19:30] And so there's no criminal proceedings, which of course doesn't mean that nothing happened, obviously. And so yeah, I guess all all of that stuff all of her songs were on her old original contract, she had to get through her five albums. And now she's independent.

[00:19:51] I will be very much be looking forward to that song. I think she's such a talented artist. Also, again, I haven't done my research on it because I just thought of it. Isn't Katy Perry's album new album being produced by Dr. Luke and like that's kind of coming under fire?

[00:20:09] Yeah, well and Katy Perry, has her new single even dropped? Like I am so not interested in Katy Perry at this point. Like to me it's such a turn off to be working with Dr. Luke at this point if you have any opportunity, like if you have the option not to.

[00:20:30] But her new song Women's World I guess drops on the 11th. So soon it will be heard but the previews have been bad like I don't think it sounds good.

[00:20:42] Yeah, I don't have any particular interest in Katy Perry like she's had some good hits in the past but like she's never been somebody who I've particularly cared about.

[00:20:55] She's had good songs, she's had bad songs and I'll listen to the good songs when they come up on the radio but I probably won't add it to the playlist is kind of my vibe. But Joyride, Kesha's new song, it really, to me feels like OG Kesha like club banger.

[00:21:14] Like so it's so fun. It actually makes me want to maybe go to a club, even though it's so late. That's crazy talk. Like one time for like five minutes. Five, you know, you'd have to pay cover. I'm not paying cover for that.

[00:21:34] I forgot about paying cover. Yeah, it's fine. I'll simply never go to the club again and I'm perfectly happy with that decision. That's probably what I would do. Should be illegal.

[00:21:46] But yeah, so the song is great. You should definitely listen to it. And it's exciting Kesha is free. She no longer is forced to work with people that she no longer wants to work with for very valid reasons.

[00:22:20] I actually can't listen to that song because I cry every time it plays. And it was played in a spin class I went to at some point in the last six months.

[00:22:31] And I was like holding back tears while riding on this spin bike and then we left and I was like, oh man that Kesha song like I it's so hard.

[00:26:24] I'm not well it's it's hard because we're a Google Home family and with the Google Homes like you have to have a paid Spotify account attached to be able to listen to specific songs or at least that's how it was when we first got them that may have changed.

[00:26:41] But if you didn't have a paid Spotify account, it would just like shuffle kind of what you might like and I need the control. Of course. It makes sense.

[00:26:52] And because he has the paid Spotify account like I can save the songs on my phone and listen when I'm not on Wi-Fi and stuff. Genius. I love it.

This story took me out and I'm like honestly scared to talk about it because I I'd never want to do anything to catch this woman's attention, but there's like a whole thing this week where people were tweeting that Azalea Banks was evicted from her home for not paying her rent, which doesn't seem to be the truth at all.

[00:27:28] Like all this is like very alleged. We don't know what's going on. But on July 5th, everyone was all tweeting because the Pop Tings account reported that she had been evicted and they'd like included court documents and everything. She went straight to her Instagram story as she does.

[00:27:50] She said, this is a lie. LMAO these Miami landlords be desperate. I've already moved CXQHQ to and then like post the full address, which I'm like, huh? That seems like a bad idea. Girl, what are you doing? Yeah.

[00:28:08] And then yeah, says why do these grease bathing white wannabes in Miami really think I'm going to play with them? Pop Tings better correct that shit. You can search a public record. There is no eviction ordered by the court.

[00:28:22] The landlord is a drunk with aged by Lori who has been menacing me the entire time I lived there. Says that her husband come into the house under the guise of fixing broken outlets. So then you go to court records.

[00:28:37] And so it looks like the landlord filed for a motion of final judgment of possession and a complaint against Cecilia Banks on July 2nd. And the motion said the eviction was filed because tenant owes plaintiff's past due rent. Defendant filed an answer there by providing a clerk's default.

[00:28:56] However, the defendant failed to deposit rent into the court registry. Florida statute specifically state an action by the landlord for possession of a dwelling unit. And if the tenant uses any defense other than payment, they have to pay into the registry.

[00:29:12] So I don't I'm not a lawyer, but this to me, this report says what she didn't pay. She wasn't evicted. She just like left on her own accord after not paying for a while. You can't fire me. I quit. I don't know one song by this woman.

[00:29:31] I do, however, know like 17 scandals she's been a part of. I fear her so much. I never want her to know who I am. She did post like really nice Instagram stories about Chapel Rowan, which I thought was cool.

[00:29:47] But I've never seen her say anything nice about anyone other than that. So I'm scared. I'm scared of her. But all I could think of was like, no, people don't actually get evicted because Todrick Hall is still living in that house in L.A.

[00:30:05] You know, I mean, I forgot about Todrick Hall for a long time. I could never forget about Todrick Hall. Okay, can I I want to share a conspiracy theory with you.

[00:30:28] And I want to know this is just kind of like some random like just a random chit chat for y'all.

[00:30:36] But I was talking to someone today and they said that they think Justin Timberlake got the DWI on purpose because otherwise no one would even know he was on a world tour. And he needed publicity for the tour.

[00:30:52] I mean, I feel like Justin Timberlake has been for 20 years now grasping at the hopes that he has sort of like a good guy with a bad boy edge image.

[00:31:07] And I don't think he's going to tank his image even more with the DWI after the stuff that Brittany said about him in his book, after the cheating rumors on Jessica Biel.

[00:31:16] All that. I just don't think Justin Timberlake is going to be the guy who says yes to his PR team doing that.

[00:31:24] But I can be pretty naive in that like if you if I am shown something, I just believe that because why would you be lying to me? You know what I mean? Like I never had that sense of like I this is a conspiracy.

[00:31:38] I just go, all right, sure. I like for like relationships. I often will be like, is this real? I don't know. Even when it's like very apparent that it is real. No, we're friends. We're friends. It's real. Oh, thank God. I was so worried. I was so worried.

[00:31:57] And so I don't know but I just thought that was a really interesting theory and I would love to hear if any of the messengers think that holds water or if that's like just a no.

[00:32:10] Because I even so okay, so I just pulled up the front page of page six. And the story from today, July 9th says inspired by Justin Timberlake tourists are flocking to Sag Harbor for Justine's and partying with the cop who arrested Justin Timberlake. Oh my God.

[00:32:25] What do you mean? That's absurd. Hopefully he doesn't quit his job and move to LA like that girl from the TikTok meme that I refuse to say out loud. You can say hock to a I don't want to.

[00:32:42] Okay, fair enough. Listen, who am I to tell you you have to say it.

[00:32:46] That also is wild. I saw people speculating that that girl was going to be on Big Brother this summer and I was like a Big Brother is never that on top of a person like they'll catch her. She'll be on it in like years.

[00:33:00] Exactly period. So not great. Not not good. Yeah, so again, this is like honestly pretty short episode of mess magnets because nothing's been happening but I have a long anonymous which maybe could turn things around. Would you like to hear an anonymous? Of course I would.

[00:33:19] Okay, and I didn't include this in the notes I sent to you because I didn't want you to see it. So all the names on this have been changed. They're not anyone's real names. This is a long mess, but it is a good story.

[00:33:33] And I do want to give people a brief content warning just at the top. There is a brief mention of suicidal ideation in this story and there is a little bit of talk of cancer.

[00:33:58] But just up top, it could be traumatic. So I don't want to traumatize anyone. Haley, you, it doesn't matter if you're traumatized. But I, listen, I'm someone who's like very sensitive to stuff about suicide and I wouldn't have read it if I thought it was like horribly triggering.

[00:34:23] Okay, so our messenger went to college in a major US city and they met a girl in freshman year that they stayed in touch with throughout all of their time at school.

[00:34:34] The summer before our messengers senior year of college, they got an internship down the block from her apartment. We're going to call this girl Amy.

[00:34:44] So since our messenger was working so close to her apartment, they started hanging out more. They'd meet each other for happy hour after work or for coffee over our messengers lunch break.

[00:34:57] They didn't have a ton in common apart from the class that they had originally met in, but they were glad, you know, for the company and Amy seemed eager to initiate plans with our messenger as well.

[00:35:08] Okay, so this is where we're setting the scene. Do you see any red flags? Where do you think this is going? Like a single white female situation.

[00:35:16] Okay, okay. So the next semester our messenger got another job in the same building. So they continue to hang out a few times a week.

[00:35:26] Amy wanted to hang out with our messenger more than our messenger wanted to hang out with her, especially because our messenger was working 30 hours a week and she was like, I'm going to hang out with her. She was like, I'm going to hang out with her.

[00:35:40] But every time our messenger would try to postpone or say that they had to work, Amy would get upset. She would make our messenger feel like she was disappointing her and going back on their word, even when they didn't have standing plans.

[00:35:56] Our messenger now can see that this was definitely gaslighting, but at the time, our messenger thought they were being a bad friend and resolved to show up for Amy when Amy needed her.

[00:36:05] So then, this is where the third element is introduced. Amy starts telling our messenger more and more about a man that she met on Tinder who was, in Amy's words, not that hot, but British.

[00:36:20] Which girl, literally run. No, that is like the most dangerous thing you could tell me. Literally turn and run. No good. So Amy really didn't like him that much, but she wanted a man to hook up with. I like our messenger includes been there girl.

[00:36:41] And they started seeing each other pretty frequently, but it was unofficial and casual. So they weren't like boyfriend girl, you know? I hated boyf, but we'll move on from it. That's, I think, from Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

[00:36:57] So one day, Amy calls our messenger crying, saying she needs to talk to our messenger right away.

[00:37:02] She rushes to Amy's apartment from work and Amy tells her that her man, who we're going to call John, who is the British guy, who is not hot but is British, was having visa issues and might have to go back to the UK.

[00:37:15] Very dramatic. Our messenger was working in HR at the time and helping people write visa applications at the time. So she asked a bunch of specific questions. What kind of visa was it? Was his specific department sponsoring his visa or his corporate employer?

[00:37:33] Does he have to go back just for a few hours to renew his visa, which is annoying but does happen? Or does he indefinitely have to go back? And Amy's like, the employer might be laying him off. She's not going to marry this guy, right?

[00:37:48] I don't know. Maybe. Do you think she's going to marry him? I don't know. I also am like, I think it's very funny because I feel like typically speaking employers don't actually tell you in advance that you're going to be laid off.

[00:38:01] Like, I feel like it's very much like you log in at nine and you have a meeting at 930 and they're like, you're done. I don't know. So our messenger comforted Amy. They talked about how messed up it is that work visas exist in the first place.

[00:38:18] And over the next few days, our messenger didn't hear from Amy as much. So she assumed that she was just spending time with John before he possibly got deported. And our messenger says, honestly, I appreciated the break. Just horrible. So then it's one weeknight at 11 p.m.

[00:38:36] Our messenger is about to go to bed and Amy calls from a really loud place. She says she was with John over the weekend and passed out. So she went to the hospital.

[00:38:46] She was there now and he had to leave. So she needed someone to come pick her up from the hospital. So our messenger, of course, threw on some clothes, took a cab to the hospital so that she could sign her out and take her back to her place.

[00:38:58] This girl is too nice. She's too nice because then the next thing she says is we were really not that close, but I was not going to leave her in the lurch. Girl, this is not your friend. Like, just go to this person.

[00:39:09] She's your best friend. I'm sorry. It sounds like she's your best friend. Like a cab to the hospital to sign her out. That's literally your sister. Also, you might be gaslighting Amy into thinking you're better friends with her than you are. Like, to be fair.

[00:39:24] But then Amy, like whenever she tries to pull back, Amy gaslights her. So, I don't know. There may be a match made in heaven. They're just gaslighting each other.

[00:39:40] And our messenger also says some part of me also felt honored that she'd reached out for me for help because it's like she had a lot of other friends in our city.

[00:39:49] But our messenger had never met any of those other friends or got invited to their group plans, but she talked about them a lot. Okay. So, she gets Amy back home, does a grocery store run to make sure she has food and Tylenol in her apartment.

[00:40:08] At 11 p.m. at night? Probably like midnight at this point. Yeah. I mean, major cities have stores that are open all the time. I guess that's fair enough.

[00:40:17] Like even Victoria used to have like 24-hour grocery stores. They just don't stay open all day anymore because of COVID, after COVID. And then she sat up with her until she felt sleepy, which took until 3 a.m. and our messenger did have work the next day.

[00:40:35] Our messenger asked, oh, why did you end up in the hospital? And Amy said, I felt lightheaded and I passed out, but something in my blood work had been concerning. So, I'm going back for follow-ups later in the week.

[00:40:48] Our messenger headed home for a few hours of sleep before going back to literally the same block for 7 a.m. for work. She should have just slept there, honestly. Like sleep on the couch. What are you doing? I guess she probably didn't have her work clothes and stuff.

[00:41:02] So, throughout the week, Amy is really distant, won't respond to any of our messengers' texts or calls, checking in on her. But she's posting a lot of like vague book statuses because this was in 2009, so there was no Instagram yet. I hate that. I hate that so much.

[00:41:20] Our messenger figured, oh, she's dealing with her health. Like I told her, I'm here for you when you are ready.

[00:41:28] And to be honest, our messenger was thinking a lot about ending the friendship, but she knew that now was not the time to do it because she felt like Amy needed her support. And okay, this is where I'm confused.

[00:41:40] This girl's a bit of a savior complex. I'm so sorry, messenger. I bet you're lovely.

[00:41:45] I mean, but like if someone you didn't like that much was like really relying on you when they're sick, I feel like I wouldn't want to set the boundary then either. But maybe I'm weird. No, no, no. That's fair enough. I don't think we'd get this far.

[00:41:55] I don't think Kirsten, if you didn't like somebody very much that you would get to this point. That's okay. You know what? That's fair enough. And so this is where I'm confused though, because then it goes thinking that she had not a lot of friends in the city.

[00:42:11] I didn't want to leave her in the lurch. But didn't you just say she had a ton of friends in the city that she talked about that you'd never met? I thought Amy never met the friends. No.

[00:42:22] She had all these friends in the city who she had never met. Oh, okay. That's hilarious. Okay, so our messenger does add a note here. Now our messenger is in her 30s and she feels like she has a lot more tools and language for setting boundaries.

[00:42:38] But at the choice, it felt like at the time, all she felt her choices were to either keep going on Amy's terms or go full no contact. And she didn't know. Yeah. And I get that. 2009 was a very different time for all of us.

[00:42:50] 2009, I was in high school. So none of this would be happening to me. But like, I didn't even have a driver's license. I was a late driver. I didn't get it till I was 18. Oh, okay. I was almost 22 when I got my driver's license.

[00:43:07] Okay, so I would say we were both late drivers. I wouldn't say like, I don't think either of them is like crazy. But a lot of people get their license at 16. Yeah, I got my degree before I got my license. Wasn't interested in driving.

[00:43:23] I mean, I'm still not interested in driving. That's why I really don't understand the Justin Timberlake DWI because if I had money like that, I would never drive anywhere, let alone drive drunk. I am an ultimate passenger princess.

[00:43:36] Period. Me too. Me too. Okay, so anyways, we're now at the end of that same week. Our messenger gets a call from Amy crying again when she's at work.

[00:43:46] Our messenger makes excuses to her bosses and leaves work to go see what's going on. And Amy has serious news. She has leukemia.

[00:43:56] The blood work that was so concerning in the ER led to more tests and a specialist and she got her diagnosis earlier that day. So this is obviously horrible.

[00:44:06] Our messenger tried to comfort her as best as she could, and she had had a relative with leukemia. So she gently was asking, oh, do they know what type? What will the treatment plan be? Like specific questions.

[00:44:18] But Amy was too upset to really answer, which was also totally understandable because she's 20 years old. Our messenger asks Amy, are your parents going to come be with you? Amy says no. Her father's elderly and she doesn't want to upset him.

[00:44:34] So our messenger calls out for the rest of the day at work and spends the day watching movies with Amy and making her toast and tea and just trying to like calm her.

[00:44:43] I guess. Then it's over the next few days, Amy would not let her messenger visit, but she kept checking in on her.

[00:44:53] They talked mostly over the phone for the next few weeks. Our message dropped off care packages a few times and she said she had her groceries handled, but needed a lot of time to go to appointments and rest, which our messenger, of course, understood.

[00:45:06] What are you thinking so far? Like where I say we're about halfway through the story. Holy, I don't even know. I don't know what to think because I don't know where we're going yet. Do you have any theories on where we're going?

[00:45:24] That this part that Amy doesn't like the messenger and she's trying to ghost her in the most crazy way like she's gonna fake her own death or something.

[00:45:31] Oh my God. Okay, that's great. Okay. So one day our messenger gets a call from again the Brit John asking if our messenger knows where Amy is and our messenger said I assume she's at home or at the doctor's.

[00:45:48] I don't know. And John said, oh, I haven't heard from Amy in over 48 hours and I'm getting nervous. Our messenger texted and called and after another day went by so 72 hours she visited the apartment before work as she was there, but there was no answer.

[00:46:05] She texted John to say, hey, I haven't heard anything else like keep me posted if you hear anything. And since she and Amy had been hanging out practically every other day for months, she's worried at this point.

[00:46:18] Because usually she was texting our messenger all the time and our messenger still had no idea how aggressive the cancer diagnosis was. She hadn't actually seen her since the first day after the diagnosis just have been talking to her all the time.

[00:46:32] Later that night, John called again. He had just taken Amy to the emergency room. He just said, here's the name of the hospital never contact me again and hung up. Our messenger had no chance to even like say anything back to John. So she's like, okay, I'll go to the hospital.

[00:46:53] So this is the second time in a month our messenger is going to the hospital to see Amy. She goes to check into the ER, assuming that's where Amy is, but she is only sent up to the psychiatric floor, which is confusing because surely this would be related to her cancer. So why would she be on the psych floor? Maybe there weren't enough beds in the ER? I don't know.

[00:47:13] Well, when our messenger gets in to see Amy, she learns that Amy had threatened suicide during a conversation with John where he immediately took her to the hospital and she was admitted on a voluntary hold. Which again, that's absolutely the right thing to do. Even if you think someone's lying to you when they threaten suicide in discussion, take them straight to the hospital because like, it's not a good idea to do that.

[00:47:36] Our messenger was shocked because she had talked with Amy openly about her own struggles with depression and Amy had never shared anything back about maybe feeling anything in that way. But you know, still sometimes people are secretive about their mental health. They had them close for that long. So she was like, okay, I'm going to go to the hospital.

[00:47:52] And she tried to ask these questions to Amy, but Amy was clearly pretty out of it. So she sat there playing cards, getting her new stuff, and then she was like, okay, I'm going to go to the hospital. And she was like, okay, I'm going to go to the hospital.

[00:48:08] Why did he leave her there and call our messenger? Had they broken up or was he just a massive jerk? And she tried to ask these questions to Amy, but Amy was clearly pretty out of it. So she sat there playing cards, getting her new socks, blankets, and jello cups. And her parents had been notified as her emergency contacts. They'd be arriving later that night.

[00:48:29] After visiting hours are up, she promised to go visit me again after school the next day and she headed home. Okay, this is where I'm like, why is our messenger asking so many pointed questions? Like, it'll be like, oh, you just found out that your boyfriend might lose his visa. Let me ask you 15 detailed questions about his visa that you may or may not know.

[00:48:51] Oh, you've been diagnosed with cancer. Let me ask you very specific questions about your diagnosis and your treatment plan. Oh, you're in the psych ward. Let me ask you all these very specific questions about why you ended up there even though you just got there. Like I'm like, Carl, sit down, please.

[00:49:07] I don't even know what to say. I'm thrown. I mean, we could have predicted that.

[00:50:09] Somehow, John found out that she was faking leukemia and he confronted her. When he confronted her, she threatened suicide if he broke up with her. That's how he took her to the emergency room. And that's why he told her and our messenger that he was done. Don't contact her again.

[00:50:25] She also lied about his visa. John wasn't about to get laid off at all. He was thinking of transferring back to the UK to be closer to his aging parents and wanted to be honest with her before their relationship got more serious. She told our messenger the lie about the visa to get sympathy, and then faked the cancer to both of them to try and convince him to stay to be with her.

[00:50:48] I thought she didn't like that guy that much. Well, obviously something changed in the background of the phone. Our messenger could hear Amy's dad reminding her to apologize. And she said, Oh, I'm sorry if I was hurt that she lied.

[00:51:05] Obviously, our messenger was speechless. She had spent hundreds of hours, dozens of days keeping her company, buying her groceries, researching leukemia, and feeling guilty about how much the friendship was draining her.

[00:51:16] But after a few seconds of speechlessness, she said, I'm glad you told me. I wish you well in recovery, but I need time and space. Later that day, she dropped off her spare key, which she had since the first ER visit, which turned out to be alcohol poisoning, in her apartment mailbox.

[00:51:38] And they never talked to each other again. But the last our messenger heard Amy is working in law enforcement. Oh, well, I hope I hope the best for everyone involved. Yeah. Just like what a roller coaster. Truly. It's like a Lifetime movie where, like the person gets murdered.

[00:52:10] Yeah, like normally at the end of this we find out Amy's dead. Yeah, Amy's always been dead.

[00:52:15] She's been dead the whole time. But no, I just I saw this one. And it's been waiting is sitting and waiting for a while but like a lot of the episodes we have too much material to go through to have an anonymous that long. But today we had a light, a light one.

[00:52:32] I do. I do sympathize for the messenger. I know I have seemed unsympathetic to that character throughout most of this, but I am sympathetic to them. That must have been like a very scary situation. And I'm sure that made them reevaluate like all of their relationships in a way.

[00:52:51] I'm sure. Yeah, I'm sure. Like obviously our messengers in their 30s now. So like I'm sure they've learned so much more about how to deal with like toxic people. Like it's like Amy sounds very much not well, you know? And so I'm not.

[00:53:07] I'm not shocked that it turned out into such a circus and such a roller coaster. But like, I'm sure everybody has learned so many life skills from going through that. And like imagine being 20 and dealing with people like that. Like, I don't think I would do a good job of it.

[00:53:24] No, definitely not.
