[00:08:06] that it's the most tragic because this is no pain Olympics, but my God, it's just like

[00:08:12] a really preventable tragedy, which makes it like more tragic.

[00:08:18] Like, it's not like it was just like random.

[00:08:21] And so right off the top, we're going to talk about what happened at the Taylor Swift Heiress

[00:08:28] tour in Rio de Janeiro this past weekend.

[00:08:32] And it's really heavy and not a lot is confirmed.

[00:08:37] So basically, everything that we're saying here is alleged and opinions.

[00:08:42] So please don't come for us if it's not 100% accurate once all of the facts end up coming

[00:08:50] out because this is an active like investigation in Brazil.

[00:08:55] So as I said, the Heiress tour was in Rio de Janeiro this past weekend.

[00:09:00] Shows were scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

[00:09:03] Of note, it is currently springtime in Brazil.

[00:09:06] So this was scheduled to not be at the height of summer when things would be like so hot.

[00:09:13] Average temperatures around this time are warm, but not too hot.

[00:09:18] When I was looking this up, it seemed like it was like high 70s, low 80s in Fahrenheit

[00:09:25] would be the typical temperatures this time of year in Rio, maybe a little higher than

[00:09:29] that, but it's also your region that's more accustomed to heat than like me in Canada.

[00:09:35] Yeah, I hear that.

[00:09:37] Or me in San Francisco, honestly.

[00:09:39] Yes.

[00:09:40] But the one thing that was not really you can't really plan for as Brazil is currently

[00:09:45] suffering an absolutely historic heat wave.

[00:09:48] It is so hot in Brazil right now on this past Sunday.

[00:09:53] Not Rio, a different city in Brazil actually recorded the hottest temperature like ever

[00:09:58] recorded in Brazil, maybe for this time of year, maybe ever.

[00:10:01] The headline wasn't super clear on that, but it's global warming.

[00:10:06] OK, it's coming.

[00:10:07] Climate change is on our ass.

[00:10:10] Everyone climate changes here.

[00:10:11] Climate change is real.

[00:10:14] The only other like more general thing is ultimately for Taylor's first name Brazil.

[00:10:20] The statue, Christ the Redeemer had a junior jewels T-shirt projected onto it, which is

[00:10:24] the T-shirt that Taylor wears in the You Belong With Me music video.

[00:10:29] And it was like that kind of had some drama and mess that was like a little bit funny,

[00:10:35] but just doesn't seem appropriate anymore to get into.

[00:10:39] But it's just something that happened.

[00:10:42] So the first thing I want to talk about is the measures that were taken at the venue

[00:10:46] or just kind of the situation at the venue.

[00:10:49] So something that you might not know about if you are not in South America, but in general,

[00:10:57] the pit will be standing room only general admission, standing room only.

[00:11:03] And what I also found out is that the seating is also general admission.

[00:11:08] But even when you have a seat, so like if you would just have a ticket and be like,

[00:11:12] OK, I have two tickets in the lower bowl.

[00:11:14] And then you would show up to the concert and just try to get the closest ticket like

[00:11:18] spots in the lower bowl, just first come first serve.

[00:11:21] And so it is very much in the.

[00:11:26] Like the concert culture in South America in general and in Brazil

[00:11:31] to line up for hours before a concert to make sure that you're getting a good spot.

[00:11:36] And I've I've definitely done that before for shows to get like a good standing room only seat.

[00:11:42] But I don't I think in the States in general,

[00:11:45] they don't do much standing room in the pit anymore.

[00:11:47] It's mostly seats now.

[00:11:49] Yeah, I was like back in the day when you could like when it was an option to be like,

[00:11:53] no, you can stand.

[00:11:54] I've done it a lot for comedy shows.

[00:11:58] Actually, I just did it like a few months ago for Marlin weigh ins where it was.

[00:12:04] Yeah, first come first serve.

[00:12:05] It didn't matter like where you just have a ticket and then you see kind of where you're going to go.

[00:12:10] And another thing as well to know, like.

[00:12:15] Out of like basically every country in the world,

[00:12:17] I would say Brazil is like the most known for being huge fans of their favorite acts,

[00:12:24] and they will be on every Instagram live, every comment, come to Brazil, come to Brazil.

[00:12:28] Like they want their favorite acts to come and they will like

[00:12:31] move heaven and earth to make it happen.

[00:12:33] Yeah, basically.

[00:12:33] So just to kind of set the stage a little bit for what's going on.

[00:12:38] So people are waiting outside all day long, basically,

[00:12:43] so they can get in as early as possible to get, you know,

[00:12:46] on the barricade if they're in the pit or the best seats, whatever.

[00:12:49] Another thing of note, water bottles were not allowed to be brought into the venue.

[00:12:55] So I've seen some people saying that like, and there's a lot of speculation over like,

[00:13:02] what is the venue's fault?

[00:13:03] What's the company T4's fault?

[00:13:05] What's like Taylor Swift's personal fault?

[00:13:08] And I just if you went to the heiress tour in the states,

[00:13:13] like most venues, you are allowed to bring in like one water bottle.

[00:13:16] Water bottles, as long as they were sealed.

[00:13:18] So I personally think this is more on the like event planning company or the venue itself.

[00:13:23] But you weren't allowed to bring a water bottle into the venue.

[00:13:25] Like I don't even think you could bring an empty container to refill

[00:13:29] or even if you could bring an empty one, there's probably no station to refill it at.

[00:13:33] Yeah, even at Disney, you know, a horrible corporate place that wants you to like

[00:13:38] get, you know, spend all the money you can.

[00:13:40] I say that because I go all the time.

[00:13:42] And even they give you one free waters and two like water fountains.

[00:13:48] So if these like corporate like entity, you know, these huge conglomerates can do it.

[00:13:55] Are you kidding me?

[00:13:56] It's water.

[00:13:57] And this is like a huge stadium where normally there would be like football games,

[00:14:03] like soccer, football, you know, games.

[00:14:06] And there'll be a ton of people there.

[00:14:09] It just seems wild to me that it wouldn't even be like a permanent part of the

[00:14:13] infrastructure of the building.

[00:14:14] But again, I don't know 100%.

[00:14:17] Like maybe there were water fountains, but who's going to leave their like

[00:14:21] spot on the barricade to go drink from a water fountain for a minute, right?

[00:14:24] It just doesn't make sense, even if that was it.

[00:14:29] Water being sold in the venue, from what I can see, was very, very expensive.

[00:14:33] I think it was $8 to $10 US for a bottle of water.

[00:14:37] And it was like not even a standard bottle.

[00:14:39] It was like the really short ones from what I could see online, which again,

[00:14:43] this is all alleged.

[00:14:44] I don't know 100%, but from what I saw, that's what it was.

[00:14:48] And again, like once you get inside, once you're at the front,

[00:14:52] no one's going to want to give up their spot to get water,

[00:14:56] to go buy like a small bottle of water for $10.

[00:15:00] In addition, the vents at the venue were actually closed

[00:15:05] to prevent people from being able to watch the concert from outside of the venue,

[00:15:11] which I just find like this is the one that really, other than water obviously,

[00:15:17] that really just like boils my blood because

[00:15:21] we've all watched this tour every weekend on TikTok.

[00:15:23] I even, I saw some of the real shows on TikTok.

[00:15:26] Like yeah, it was possible to watch.

[00:15:29] It's literally a movie.

[00:15:31] We've all seen it if we want to see it.

[00:15:34] And they sold out the stadium.

[00:15:35] It's not like you lose any money by the vents being open and oh,

[00:15:41] someone outside might catch a glimpse.

[00:15:42] Like you don't lose anything.

[00:15:45] It'd be so different if you're like, oh my God, stadiums at half capacity

[00:15:49] because people are banking on doing X, Y and Z, right?

[00:15:52] Like that's not the case.

[00:15:54] So who do you think you are to make that decision?

[00:15:59] That's what I feel like is to me, the water,

[00:16:02] at least you can be like capitalism, right?

[00:16:04] It literally kills us all.

[00:16:05] But when you're pushing for the vents to be closed,

[00:16:10] that to me, that just feels like a special kind of like sadism.

[00:16:13] Like an unprecedented heat wave.

[00:16:16] When 80,000 people are mostly crammed into small quarters together.

[00:16:22] You're gonna say close the vents.

[00:16:25] Like it just doesn't make sense.

[00:16:27] There were no fans.

[00:16:28] The vents were closed.

[00:16:30] And again, like water was hard to come by.

[00:16:34] As well, like I saw someone post that like when they left the show,

[00:16:38] they saw like boxes of water that hadn't been handed out.

[00:16:41] So I think there was also major staffing issues to actually get

[00:16:45] the water into the hands of the people that needed it.

[00:16:49] Several people fainted and suffered from heat related health concerns,

[00:16:54] heat exhaustion, heat stroke, what have you.

[00:16:56] Like I don't know their medical diagnoses.

[00:16:58] I'm not a doctor.

[00:16:59] But apparently the local fire department reported that 1,000 people fainted

[00:17:06] during the concert from heat, which is just horrible.

[00:17:09] Wild.

[00:17:11] The temperature in the middle of the pit was measuring at 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

[00:17:19] Was how it felt like when you take into account like the humidity

[00:17:22] and the body heat and everything.

[00:17:24] It was 140 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 60 degrees Celsius

[00:17:28] a temperature that I can't even imagine, because like 32 degrees Celsius

[00:17:33] is like too hot for me because I'm a baby.

[00:17:35] Yeah, 140 is like not even does Texas even get to 140?

[00:17:39] Like, damn.

[00:17:40] No, I doubt it.

[00:17:40] Well, I mean, 120 is probably the most.

[00:17:43] Yeah, I don't think really anywhere is probably getting 140.

[00:17:47] Like just as the ambient temperature, right?

[00:17:51] I don't know.

[00:17:51] But maybe when the heat is like bouncing off the pavement or something.

[00:17:54] Sure, sure.

[00:17:56] But I know that in where I live in Victoria, BC in 2021,

[00:18:02] we had what they called a heat dome, which was like an extreme heat wave.

[00:18:07] And it was very weird.

[00:18:08] And it did not get to it was like, I think, barely above 40 degrees Celsius.

[00:18:14] And it was like people died from the heat.

[00:18:16] Like it's just heat is no joke.

[00:18:19] Yeah.

[00:18:19] And it's also like the science of how heat exhaustion and heat stroke can

[00:18:25] like impact your brain and cognitive function long term is also really scary.

[00:18:29] So it's just wild.

[00:18:33] There was points in the show where Taylor was literally like on stage,

[00:18:37] like in this direction, 15 feet back, this person needs a water bottle.

[00:18:42] Bring a water bottle to that.

[00:18:43] Give a water bottle to that person.

[00:18:45] And then like allegedly her team was like running around delivering water

[00:18:49] because nobody at the venue was there to do it or they're just weren't enough.

[00:18:53] Like maybe so many of the venue staff were dealing with people going to the medical

[00:18:57] tent that they weren't there to hand out water.

[00:18:59] I don't know.

[00:19:00] Yeah.

[00:19:00] But she's literally like in the middle of the show and she's like, no, I'll wait.

[00:19:04] Like I'm not performing the next song until that person.

[00:19:06] Like I can see that that person needs water so badly.

[00:19:10] There was a point in the show.

[00:19:11] Yeah, I saw that video.

[00:19:12] Where like she's like someone's opening a bottle of water for her during

[00:19:17] her performance of All Too Well, 10 minute version.

[00:19:19] And she literally is like, oh, can you put the lid back on and like hucks it into the audience?

[00:19:24] Not a great throwing arm on this lift.

[00:19:27] But you know what?

[00:19:28] She's doing her.

[00:19:29] She was doing her best in that moment.

[00:19:31] And also like...

[00:19:31] That's not what she gets paid for.

[00:19:33] She's not Travis Kelce.

[00:19:35] No, she's not.

[00:19:37] And it's also just like, even if you're not considering that all these people are in close

[00:19:44] proximity and it's dangerously hot for them,

[00:19:47] like it was probably even just dangerous for Taylor to be performing in that heat period.

[00:19:54] Let alone, it also was so dangerous for so many other people.

[00:19:59] I think maybe there was a pressure for the show to not be postponed,

[00:20:04] like any of the shows to be postponed.

[00:20:06] I know that a show in Argentina, literally the week before,

[00:20:10] had to be postponed because of rain and thunder.

[00:20:12] So like climate change is the one thing you can't really plan for, right?

[00:20:17] That part.

[00:20:17] Okay.

[00:20:18] So that's really bad.

[00:20:21] I do know one person who was actually at the Friday night show in Rio.

[00:20:26] And when I talked to her, she said lots of water was getting passed out.

[00:20:31] God.

[00:20:32] But my theory on it is that the water wasn't making it far enough back to help everybody.

[00:20:39] Like I think the people at the front were able to like pour bottles of water on their heads

[00:20:43] and like drink water and stuff.

[00:20:45] But the people further back, it probably just never made its way back to them.

[00:20:48] Yeah.

[00:20:49] Because everyone is hot.

[00:20:50] Everyone's thirsty.

[00:20:51] Everyone is just like really struggling.

[00:20:54] Even for Beyonce, like I was on the floor, but I was behind the standing room only.

[00:21:01] It felt okay because we were able to sit, right?

[00:21:05] And we had sections, number one.

[00:21:07] And also obviously it was an open stadium, but that's not even the point.

[00:21:12] Where we had vendors, right?

[00:21:14] Like with waters and stuff around.

[00:21:15] Because there was no way I could walk back up to get to any drinks or anything.

[00:21:22] So that's number one.

[00:21:23] But I am now even thinking like how did the people that were in the Renaissance,

[00:21:28] like right in the VIP section,

[00:21:30] how were they getting it?

[00:21:31] I have no idea.

[00:21:34] Yeah.

[00:21:34] It's just kind of like I hope they're able to bring it in.

[00:21:38] And like thankfully it just wasn't as hot as it got, right?

[00:21:44] And I've seen a lot on social media of fans saying like there just were not enough staff

[00:21:48] and the staff did not know what to do.

[00:21:52] I'm pretty sure this is just unprecedented.

[00:21:54] 100%.

[00:21:55] A show happening like this.

[00:21:57] And so the full, the big tragedy of all of this is that Anna Clara Benavides

[00:22:05] was a 23-year-old fan of Taylor Swift.

[00:22:07] By all accounts, like didn't come from a lot of money.

[00:22:11] And her family may have taken out a loan for her to go to this concert.

[00:22:15] I don't know.

[00:22:15] Oh my God.

[00:22:16] That is super alleged.

[00:22:17] I do not know.

[00:22:19] But she was 23 years old and she passed out, passed away.

[00:22:25] She was, she had fainted on site and was resuscitated and then transferred to hospital.

[00:22:31] And in the coming days, like some information has come out like

[00:22:35] was this before the concert started?

[00:22:37] Was it two tracks in?

[00:22:40] Like what happened?

[00:22:41] And we don't know.

[00:22:42] We don't know the full details of what happened to Anna.

[00:22:45] And like we maybe never will.

[00:22:47] But at the very least, it's an active investigation right now in Rio de Janeiro.

[00:22:51] Um, Taylor posted on Friday night, and this is the only statement that's come

[00:22:57] officially from Taylor's camp.

[00:22:59] She said, I can't believe I'm writing these words, but it is with a shattered heart that

[00:23:03] I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show.

[00:23:06] I can't even tell you how devastated I am by this.

[00:23:08] There's very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful

[00:23:13] and far too young.

[00:23:14] I'm not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief

[00:23:18] when I even try to talk about it.

[00:23:20] I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family

[00:23:24] and friends.

[00:23:25] This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this to Brazil.

[00:23:33] And then the Saturday show was still scheduled to be happening, which is just wild because

[00:23:39] I'm pretty sure Saturday was even hotter than Friday.

[00:23:43] And some measures had started to be put in place like electric fans, the vents were going

[00:23:48] to be open, water bottles are going to be allowed into the venue.

[00:23:52] And social media is implying that Taylor's team is the one that made all of that happen,

[00:23:57] not the venue.

[00:23:57] But again, we don't know.

[00:24:00] And ultimately, the show did get postponed to Monday from Saturday, but it didn't happen

[00:24:06] until only a couple of hours before the show.

[00:24:08] So some fans had already been waiting in line all day to get a good spot when it got postponed.

[00:25:08] the concert is over three hours long.

[00:25:10] And she literally is like gasping for breath at the end of the performance in a way that

[00:25:17] we've never seen on this tour before.

[00:25:19] And she's so red by the end of the show.

[00:25:22] Like, I just think it was like, it definitely could have impacted her.

[00:25:27] But what's weird about the clip is she's like getting so heavily, like clearly exhausted,

[00:25:32] And she literally like snaps back into performer mode.

[01:16:50] discrimination, harassment and retaliation.

[01:16:54] But it doesn't seem like again, Hassan talked about.

[01:17:01] It's very, very bizarre.

[01:17:04] And he does still say like, I'm going to be more thoughtful.

[01:17:07] But he's like, I'm also not a psycho.

[01:17:10] That's like just out here lying on everything.

[01:17:13] I'm just trying to like be honest about the factual truth.

[01:17:18] And sometimes I'll add emotion to it.

[01:17:23] And then he does share that, like, you know, the truth comes first and blah, blah, blah,

[01:17:28] all this stuff.

[01:17:29] But then he says the New Yorker, which is true.

[01:17:31] And I looked it up.

[01:17:32] The New Yorkers final quote about valuing the emotional truth over the factual truth

[01:17:37] come from him talking about his life on The Daily Show, right?

[01:17:42] Where he's like, on my show, I was able to share emotional truths.

[01:17:46] And the factual truth was sometimes secondary because, you know, it's my show, right?

[01:17:50] Like I'm trying to make it work versus The Daily Show, where the truth always came first

[01:17:55] and the comedy came second to infotainment.

[01:17:59] So he shared that whole clip, the whole audio with us as well.

[01:18:05] And the whole yeah.

[01:18:06] And the whole quote is when it comes to his stage shows,

[01:18:09] the emotional truth is first, the factual truth the second.

[01:18:12] That's what allegedly he said he did.

[01:18:16] Um, and it seems like, again, everything the New Yorker said, like lines up

[01:18:23] except the prom story.

[01:18:25] But the problem is the way they have made it as an expose.

[01:18:30] And it's just like this disgusting, like hit piece when like you're OK.

[01:18:37] I wish I could remember comedy bits like I went to Marlon Wayans show.

[01:18:41] Like you're telling me that when he talked about like having, you know,

[01:18:45] this horror, like this crazy sex incident, that that might be true.

[01:19:20] And yet he can sell at Madison Square Garden now.

[01:19:25] Whereas this is like, OK, well, let's build a story that

[01:19:31] essentially the tone really read that it's to take down.

[01:19:39] Who they didn't even do their due diligence as a newspaper because they did not fact check.

[01:19:47] They didn't check his side of the story and.

[01:19:53] Like I you don't have to present both sides of a story in a journalism article,

[01:19:58] like once you've found the facts, you can just report the truth.

[01:20:01] But like it doesn't seem like they did their fact checking.

[01:20:04] And it's just like a major failing that I don't think would have happened if these

[01:20:08] if he was a white man.

[01:20:10] A hundred percent, you know, and so it's just one of those things that you have to look at.

[01:20:16] The structural issues in our society that allow for.

[01:20:23] Allow for this to happen, and it's just really screwed up.

[01:20:29] And listen, the thing is, he's still doing sold out shows.

[01:20:36] But like he lost out on a hosting gig.

[01:21:27] Our piece, which includes Minhaj's perspective at length, was carefully reported and fact checked.

[01:21:42] and the woman at the center of his prom rejecting story.

[01:21:45] We stand by our story.

[01:21:47] So they're basically saying we selectively cherry picked what we wanted to present to you.

[01:21:58] And it isn't fair to like.

[01:22:03] Men of color and how they constantly have to act a certain way,

[01:23:50] He asked our messenger on a date to go to dinner and a movie.

[01:23:53] So after they settled on the movie and the location of the movie theater,

[01:23:58] he suggested going to IHOP.

[01:24:01] Now, I hope was not very close to the movie theater.

[01:24:04] There are much closer places.

[01:24:06] He suggested I hop for dinner.

[01:24:09] Our messenger thought it was like a little weird, but was also like,

[01:24:11] oh, maybe he just really likes I hop whatever.

[01:24:14] Right?

[01:24:14] Me with Waffle House.

[01:24:15] Yeah.

[01:24:17] But that's not the case, because on the date he admitted that he has never been to IHOP.

[01:24:21] And then he ordered for dinner a cup of milk.

[01:24:30] The boy dinner.

[01:24:32] Literally.

[01:24:34] But other than that, the date was pretty good.

[01:24:37] So our messenger continued to text with this guy and they went on another date.

[01:24:42] But between the second and third date,

[01:24:45] he texted our messenger a question that she found a bit odd.

[01:24:48] He said, do you swear?

[01:24:51] And she said, well, like, not really.

[01:24:54] Do you?

[01:24:56] And he said, I don't swear because my parents taught me strong morals.

[01:25:00] OK, sure.

[01:25:04] Our messenger says my parents never really cared about this.

[01:25:07] And he said, oh, I'm surprised you turned out the way you did.

[01:25:10] Because, like, I don't know, this is just weird.

[01:25:12] And so our messenger was super taken back by this because it's like literally outrageous.

[01:25:18] And they had a date planned for the same day.

[01:25:20] And on the date she asked him about these texts.

[01:25:24] And he said he believes good people don't swear.

[01:25:28] So just a weirdo.

[01:25:30] Our messenger had already decided before this date started that it was going to be their last

[01:25:34] date, but they ended the day pretty quickly after that conversation happened.

[01:25:38] And then here's the worst part.

[01:25:41] This man had the audacity to ghost our messenger after this.

[01:25:44] Oh, our messenger was planning to go to them.

[01:25:47] So I guess it's a mutual ghosting.

[01:25:51] A mutual.

[01:25:58] I just want to say if on your first date someone orders a glass of milk for dinner,
