[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_03] And I'm Gia. And this is Mess Magnets. We're back, baby. Yes, we're back. Kirsten's missing. But listen, she got house things to worry about, all right? She's adulting. And that's all right because we have brought in our girly pop. We have brought in certified vibes girly. Someone that's going to yap it all up with us. Gia is here, baby.

[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_03] Welcome, Gia. First time, Mess Magnets.

[00:02:16] [SPEAKER_04] Yes. Thank you so much. I am honored to be making my Mess Magnets debut here. And Sasha, I know, like, I love you. I love Kirsten. Like, I am ready to, like, just yap it up as much as possible. Like, we know we are here for the vibes. And I am so ready.

[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_03] Me too. Okay. Y'all are going to have so much fun. But if you didn't know Gia, then come on, wake up, everyone. But Gia is, like, so funny. And honestly, her online presence is hilarious, obviously, especially with Survivor. And Gia covers Abbott Elementary 10 on 10 with Chappelle over on Recap Kickback. She is talking Quickfire, aka Top Chef, over on Silent Podcast.

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_03] So listen, check Gia out. Get it together, everyone.

[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_04] Thank you. What a nice shout out. Thank you so much.

[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_03] Oh my gosh. Of course. No, we're so excited. Seriously. Because somehow it got brought up to me. I don't know if it was by you or not. But it was like, Gia needs to come on Mess Magnets. And in my brain, you had already been on. So, like, I was just like, what do you mean?

[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_04] And then I said, oh, Mess Magnets is just whenever we get together. Like, that's the off script version.

[00:03:38] [SPEAKER_03] Maybe that's why, because, you know, I'm so used to just, like, yapping with you that I didn't even put it together that you had never been on. Terrible. So it's fine. I know, right? Like, anytime we all hang out, it's a great time. Correct. Correct. So, and listen, but it's fine. Officially, Gia is here. But before we get started, because we have some chunky stories to get into today, Gia. Let the people know, like, what is your relationship with pop culture? Are there any, like, particular stories?

[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_03] You know, you're into slash your Roman Empire. Tell us. Tell us everything.

[00:04:11] [SPEAKER_04] Oh, my God. So, yes and no. So I love pop culture as a whole. I think that, like, especially as I pursued a higher education with my master's degree, realized, like, you know, the personal is political and really understanding the importance of pop culture in our greater society. Because I feel like it says so much about the world we live in and the stories that are told.

[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_04] So I love pop culture as a whole. But, of course, my bread and butter is Survivor. I've been watching since I was, I think, like, eight or nine years old. Like, whatever fourth grade age is, that's when I started watching. Loved it. Obsessed from, like, the very beginning. And I didn't even start with, like, a good season. It was, like, all stars.

[00:05:02] [SPEAKER_04] Like, and I, but I was, like, locked in with it from the, and then Vanuatu came right afterwards, which I'm, like, this is a perfect piece of television. You can't tell me any differently.

[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_03] No, you're, like, in Survivor. So I get this. Oh, yes. And it's fascinating.

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_04] Yes. So I love Survivor very much. I feel like, in general, I, like, if it's a reality competition show, like, somebody goes home every week, that type of feel, I'm invested in it. You know, like, that is, like, you can get me to watch something if it's a competition. I love that element of it. I mean, I think the easy answer to this is that my Roman Empire is just Survivor Fiji.

[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_04] Like, I think about it once a week, at the very least. I think of it often. But I also think that season, and I've written many articles on this. I feel like there is so much to learn from that season, both in the outcome of it and the fans' reactions to some, let's just say, a little more devious behaviors from certain players.

[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_04] And, again, I am on their side 100%. So. As we always are. Let's make you very clear. Or they could never make me hate you. Yes.

[00:06:27] Exactly.

[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_04] Yes, exactly. We are pro-fun villain on Mess Magnets. And just, like, the greater Survivor world. So, huge fan of that. I feel like there are other stories throughout that I get, like, really into. I love, like, the light mess. You know what I'm saying? Yes. Like, there's a scandal in there, but it's not, like, super dark.

[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_04] Like, I want to have fun when I'm learning about mess. Like, I'm excited to talk about one of our pieces that I had asked about earlier. Because I feel like award season drama is the epitome of the type of mess I'm into. Like, it's in the grand scheme of things. Like, it's so unserious compared to everything else in the world.

[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_04] Like, the Don't Worry Darling drama of yesteryear. I was seated for every update on that. Like, that is the type of mess I love. So, anytime something like that comes up, I am seated. I am ready.

[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_03] Oh, you know what? You just read our minds. Yeah, I think I'm fully with you. Where I like a mess that's, like, that takes a long time. Like, that isn't, like, okay, here's a quick article and now you're done. Give me, like, a lot to dig into. You, plus, let it be normal. You know, let it be, like, not, like, this horrible scandal that's gonna ruin life. Blah, blah, blah. No. I don't need all that.

[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_03] Just give me a fun, did he spit or not? Yeah. That's it. That's all I care about. That part.

[00:08:13] [SPEAKER_04] Like, the documentaries that come out, like, I know recently they had the other ones where they're, like, you know, like, those are really dark to me. So, like, my interest level isn't really there for some of those. But, yeah, I'm very, but something, yes, like the don't worry, darling, as, like, an example of it. Very light. Very demure.

[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_04] Very hilarious in hindsight.

[00:08:46] [SPEAKER_03] Yes. I'm with you. I think the messengers are, too. So, this is what, let's get into it. Today, some are gonna be light, some are not. But we're, you know, we're in it, okay? We're reporters. We're news. Just kidding. We're really not. So, we're gonna start with Rachel McConnell. Kirkconnell. Okay, I just made that up. Rachel Kirkconnell.

[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_03] Um, so she goes, Rachel Kirkconnell goes on the Call Her Daddy podcast. All right. So, all the tea is out, Gia. And maybe for folks that don't know, we literally two podcast episodes ago, we had Haley on January 7th. I think we recorded January 17th. Whatever. That week.

[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_03] We released it with Lavina and Haley Strong, where we talked about how, um, Matt James, who was the first Black Bachelor, posted this, um, breakup post with him and Rachel Kirkconnell. And it was, like, super effing weird. Like, the whole Instagram was weird. Um, especially when, like, he was commenting on everything. Like, oh, we're gonna, we might get married. We're this, we're that.

[00:10:10] [SPEAKER_03] Like, very positive things are about to, you know, go, like, the more permanent route to where we just immediately get hit with this post. And there's some, there's some mess. Because she's, Rachel Kirkconnell has gone on the Call Her Daddy podcast. And I feel like shit's getting crazy. So, are you ready?

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_03] Because I listened to almost all two hours of it. I mean, I, sorry, I listened to two, I listened to all of it. It was almost two hours is what I meant. So. I love the commitment to it. Yeah. Because honestly, I love mess. Like I said, I love mess. I love when it's not my mess. But, Gia, and I was so excited to talk to you about it. Because I just, and I'll tell you why in a little bit. But it is so ridiculous what he did. And you're gonna die. I can't believe.

[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_03] So, um, so less than two weeks ago, like I said, uh, they had broken up. Now she goes on Call Her Daddy. And she says, hey, like, I'm doing all right. She was pretty weepy the whole podcast. Like, she was crying. Um, she would get teary-eyed, then hold herself back. Then she would full-on cry. It was like a whole thing. Like, poor girl. She's struggling. And she's basically saying, like, some days are better than others. Right?

[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_03] Like, I'm feeling kind of empowered, excited to be on my own. But some days it's hard to get out of bed. Who has not gone through a breakup? Let alone it be public. Like this. So, um, also the thing is, we knew that the breakup post and, like, the things around it was weird. But can I tell you, like, I think we have to start with the biggest bombshell.

[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_03] Because that is just nuts. And so, the reason that she never shared the breakup post. Because, you know, a lot of breakup posts, folks will, like, go on Instagram, right? And, like, share. Or it'll be on both. It'll be, like, a partnership. Yeah. Or, you know, the same post shows up on both. Didn't happen here. Um, you want to know why, Gia? Why? He broke, so they go to Tokyo.

[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_03] And to Japan, really. And this is her favorite spot, she said. Okay? Like, no!

[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_04] I feel like I already know where this is going and I hate it. Okay.

[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_03] So, I think they were in London before. Which is, like, all over his Instagram. Then they went to Tokyo. Because they had some, like, flight credit left. And, like we said, Rachel loves Japan. So, they're in Tokyo. And she's shared a lot on the pod. She talks a lot about, like, how she felt the power dynamics were different between them. In that he was, right, the lead.

[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_03] She was the, um, she was one of X amount of girls fighting for his love. So, that was already ridiculous. Then, they don't end up getting engaged. And they end up breaking up. But then, as the show was airing, apparently, they both were like, oh, the audience really, this is according to her. The audience really likes us. Blah, blah, blah. Maybe we should just give this a shot. So, they end up dating.

[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_03] And then they had broken up. But then they got back together. Like, it was a thing. But they've been together about four years. And she said, really, she was always the first one to apologize. Mm-hmm. Yeah. And then, again, it was always like, what does Matt want? Then we'll go from there. And it was like, oh, you don't want us to live together because, you know, you're pretty religious. Fine.

[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_03] But basically, they were spending every day together. Yeah. Then her problem, then his issue would be like, I don't want to talk about getting engaged. That's crazy. And she's like, yeah, yeah. And I want to be surprised anyway. So, randomly this past year, they've been talking a lot about, like, what their kids would look like, blah, blah, blah. But he's very trepidatious. All right? Mm-hmm.

[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_03] So, you can already tell, like, it's giving, you know, he runs full. The red flags are all over the place. Yes. Yes. Correct. So, now, they're in Tokyo, all right? This one night. And his job, right, is posting food on Instagram. That's his job? Well, yeah. He's like a full-time influencer. But that's what she says. She's like, you know, his job is food. So. Okay.

[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_03] I have thoughts already. Yeah. Hashtag influencer. No, just wait, because you're going to get pissed off. So, he was apparently doing something and they needed to find somewhere to go to dinner. And because this was, like, a super last-minute trip, they didn't really plan too much, is what she says. So, then she spends, like, an hour trying to find a spot because, you know, it has to, like, be posted. So, it needs to, right, meet a certain level of criteria.

[00:15:34] [SPEAKER_03] Which I'm like, you're in Tokyo. Just go find a ramen spot. Yeah.

[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_04] Like, I feel like Tokyo is just, like, there is probably more Instagrammable food than not. There is. I've been. Yeah. And I've never been. This is just kind of, like, I feel like Tokyo is made for, like, influencer-esque photographs.

[00:15:59] [SPEAKER_03] There's so much kawaii stuff, right? Like, I, no, please, please. It's just, anyway, but I understand. So, she felt, like, immense pressure to find the right thing. Mm-hmm. To eat and to post whatever you want to say. So, he was, like, just pick something. It's fine. Just pick something. Anyway, they end up going somewhere. Turns out the place wasn't as good.

[00:16:24] [SPEAKER_03] She said she was also on her period, which, you know, like, made her a little bit more emotional than usual. And apparently, she shed a few tears at the dinner table, which I feel like if I tell my husband, like, I'm on my period and I'm acting this way, he just, he'll be like, oh, got it. We're good. How do I, like, help you?

[00:16:46] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. I feel like that's a, I get, you know, some, sometimes it can't be avoided, but that's, like, a stay in and order out type.

[00:16:54] Correct.

[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_04] If it's a romantic situation or at the very least, like, if it comes on, like, unexpectedly, like, you be there for the part, even if it's not your romantic partner, you be there for your friend or your, like, family member, whoever it is that you're comforting. Because periods are a really difficult time. Yeah.

[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_03] I'm so with you. So, that's what I think she was, like, expecting low-key. But either way, he, like, doesn't receive it well. And they get into an argument. But then even though he's, like, it's fine. It's not a big deal. I don't know why you're reacting like this. Kind of blaming her. To be, like, I'm really surprised that you're reacting so, you know, deeply. Yes.

[00:17:42] [SPEAKER_04] I hate the language of that. Like, the dismissiveness of it. Like, the, like, wanting to preemptively push that she's the crazy one here. Yep.

[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. And here's the thing, Gia. Can you imagine someone spending an hour, right? Like, researching something, like, a survivor-related. Because Gia really cares about this spot in Fiji. So, I'm going to spend an hour, you know, making sure that we can get there. And maybe it didn't work out. Wouldn't you be like, that is the sweetest thing ever?

[00:18:17] [SPEAKER_04] The fact that someone put in the effort is, I don't know about you, Sasha, but my ultimate love language is gift-giving. I don't know if you do love languages. Yeah. I love gift-giving. But as I've explained to people when they ask me about it, it is not about the price tag on the gift. Even though, you know, like, who would say no to, you know, something, something a little pricier. Correct. You know the price tag, essentially.

[00:18:44] [SPEAKER_04] But it is the idea that you either see something or think of me in that way. It's the fact that you thought of me when you saw this thing and was like, okay, I'm going to get this for this person. Yep. Like, my aunt sent me like cocktail napkins one more time because they had like a quote that I had said before. Like, it's like, and it's right.

[00:19:08] [SPEAKER_04] It's stuff like that where what this is probably all of like $8 for like the present itself. But it's the fact that someone put in the effort to think about me in that way. And I feel like that's at the end of the day, like if somebody struggled to like plan out a survivor Fiji themed anything for me, I would cry like tears of happiness. Yes.

[00:19:33] [SPEAKER_03] I'm million percent with you. Yeah. So that's where I am. And that's where, yeah, my mindset was. So and I think that's maybe what she expected as well. So then they like go to bed or maybe they had a fight. I don't fully remember, but it doesn't matter. And then the next morning, you know, it's her. No, actually. Yeah, it's her last day. I'll say it ahead of time. Even on the podcast, she doesn't tell us this. It's her last day.

[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_03] So she's like doing, you know, her last minute, like shopping, blah, blah, blah to go home. And they kind of go their separate ways. And she's like, that was weird because usually we do like literally everything together. And we've been together three plus weeks. So maybe like we're both just kind of getting on each other's nerves. Like, it's fine. It happened. Apparently they somehow get into a conversation and he breaks up with her in Tokyo.

[00:20:30] [SPEAKER_03] Stop right before she's about to get on the flight. Are you kidding me? No. Oh, my God. And he basically says, like, the way you acted shows me that, you know, you're not ready for a relationship or maybe you're not, you know, like emotionally mature. You know, that weird narcissistic shit. That's so weird.

[00:20:51] [SPEAKER_04] I don't think you're ready for a relationship. But we've been dating for, what, four years? Yeah. And mine do, Sasha. I have never been in a relationship for that long. Okay. So that's actually before my husband. Yeah. That seems like eternity to me. It's like, I feel like, you know, after like, I know after like a month if this is going to work out or not. Like, I feel like you at least know that this person is mature or not by that point.

[00:21:17] [SPEAKER_03] Right. And I'm telling you, it's just, it's outrageous. So then he like says all that stuff. He breaks up. Now, are you ready for the biggest kicker? Okay. Yes. He posted that thing on Instagram while she's on the flight. No. And she, for some reason, had either downloaded a VPN like years ago. It doesn't matter. For whatever reason, Wi-Fi does not work on her phone.

[00:21:48] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah.

[00:21:49] [SPEAKER_03] Just, it just doesn't. Okay. So he posts it. I think, sorry, he posts it. She sees it, but she has to get on the plane. Yeah. Like turn, go airplane mode. So she's sitting with that anxiety for 12 plus hours. Oh my God. What a psychopath. And she can't, like I said, get on the internet. Just to think about like everybody.

[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_04] Everybody, everybody's thoughts on it. She probably, like my guess is she's not even able to like tell family or friends.

[00:22:24] [SPEAKER_03] No, she said she wasn't able to talk to anyone. Like her phone was basically a brick. I would burn his house down. I think I actually would like ask someone, like I would try to get the air hostess. They were like, I need your phone.

[00:22:40] [SPEAKER_04] Oh my God. Yeah.

[00:22:42] [SPEAKER_03] It'd be like, at least text my mom.

[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_04] Right? Because I know my parents are so nosy. Yeah. I, at the very least, need to tell them. Like if they found out on the internet before me.

[00:22:54] [SPEAKER_03] They'd be. You know, my mom, my mom's not be getting on a flight to Tokyo. That's the problem. Yeah. Oh my God. Yep. So she had to like land her phones obviously blown up. And then she had to like send basically voice notes to people to be like, I just, I'm okay. Like, just give me some time. Yeah. I'll deal with it later. Oh my God.

[00:23:16] [SPEAKER_04] So. Yup. We're so, I'm so glad she went on the podcast and went through like revealed all that dirt. Yeah. Because like they, I don't know. I, I hate, uh, can I swear on this podcast? Yeah. I hate a motherfucker that acts like they're going to be mature about a situation, but this does the most diabolical shit. Correct.

[00:23:42] [SPEAKER_04] Like, and expects me to just like not say anything because I am not the one. Okay. I will never in a breakup be the bigger person. That is just not me.

[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_03] I'm not even the bigger person in the relationship. Why would I be in the fucking breakup? Be serious. You go low.

[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_04] I will go lower. Give me a shovel, please. Yeah.

[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_03] Like come for me, please. I dare you. Let's try it.

[00:24:07] [SPEAKER_04] See, and I have anxiety. It can get pretty severe at times. So if you did that to me on not even just, just any flight, let alone a 12 hour flight, you will never know peace again. I think every throw up fight. Like, oh my God. No, no, I could not do that. She's already a better person than me because I, I could never.

[00:24:34] [SPEAKER_04] Can I tell you my initial impression of this couple? Cause I only knew a little bit of, so I don't watch the bachelor bachelorette really. Like I hear about, there are certain pieces of pop culture that like, I like, it's the same with housewives. Like I don't hate the bachelor bachelorette franchise or like the housewives franchise or anything like that. Right. But I'm just not super involved with it.

[00:25:02] [SPEAKER_04] So I'll hear little pieces of the drama on whatever season of whatever piece of the franchise is on at the moment. And that's like my retention of the bachelor information or like things like that. But I remember this season because they made it such a big deal out of it being the first black bachelor that they've had.

[00:25:26] [SPEAKER_04] And I could go a little more into that, but I, Sasha, I feel like this is a, it's more a one-on-one conversation. Like that's more of a- I know what you mean. Yes. Yes. But when the season was airing, I remember it coming out that Rachel was part of at college, like an antebellum party or something. That was like a Southern plantation-esque themed party, which is super problematic.

[00:25:55] [SPEAKER_04] But I remember it because it was, you know, like it was revealed during the show. I remember her bringing, putting out a statement about it. But what I remember towards the very end is that they got together and then they had like the reunion or what it was like the women tell all or something like that. Like, I can't remember what exactly it was, but essentially after she had won, they basically

[00:26:20] [SPEAKER_04] were like, oh, well, you know, if we're going to be together, then you have to like educate yourself. And I'm not sure if an apology is enough. Like he's saying this to her. Yeah. He like broke up with her. She's yeah. He said he broke up with her, but it was like very much like this, like making it seem like like they were done or that she has a lot of like growing to do. And I don't disagree with the fact that like she needed to like that.

[00:26:50] [SPEAKER_04] She was right in this situation. Right. Like that's, that's not my thing. Like I am very much against this themed party and like that she participated in it. Correct. But then they got back together, like relative or they're like soft launch their relationship again. And so Matt just gave me these weird vibes of like, he's doing things based on like what looks good for him.

[00:27:18] [SPEAKER_04] Like, I feel like if this was really your partner that even if she did, and especially because they're like a biracial couple. Yeah. That you need to at least like, if this is the person you are choosing to be with after you just called them a racist on TV or like strongly implied or that she needs to work on herself. And then like immediately, you know, people can't see me, but I'm using air quotes right here, like took her back.

[00:27:46] [SPEAKER_04] I don't know if she was ever, they were ever really broken up.

[00:27:49] [SPEAKER_03] But as they were because it turns out he was dating someone else. Oh my God. That's even crazier.

[00:27:57] [SPEAKER_04] And she found out via reality, Steve. Oh my God. Wait, that's insane. But okay, so yes, it just it felt very weird and that he was like trying to play it up as like, he is the black bachelor and like he needs to like take a stand. But then he like goes back on this stand, like immediately when it's convenient for him. So it just felt very odd to me. Like this was just a couple that I was not super invested in.

[00:28:26] [SPEAKER_04] I want to give Rachel the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure she has grown quite a lot since her time on TV, especially with the backlash she received. But like it just they always struck me as like a weird couple.

[00:28:40] [SPEAKER_03] No. And I think that's exactly it where I think she 100% did that. She's stuck in all this controversy. But then he felt like he's trying to do the right thing without actually doing the right thing. And I'm not saying it's his job to do the education. It's never on him. But I think we could have the conversation that like if that's something you're not into,

[00:29:09] [SPEAKER_03] then why are we here? Yeah. Like like let's just end it. But she's saying that he was in the car, you know, being like taking me back. Take me back. Why? Yeah.

[00:29:23] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. It's just it's an odd the way the relationship was framed versus how they ended up getting back together was just really weird, very off putting to me. It just did not. And again, I don't know these people, but I know their TV personas. So to me, that was weird. Yes. No.

[00:29:44] [SPEAKER_03] And I think that's a perfect encapsulation of for us. They're on the outside. Yeah. And and again, she came off very likable. I do appreciate. And because I posted it on my Instagram because I think it's the funniest thing. She posted pictures of all of her Tokyo. It's just solo shots. And it says still love you, Tokyo.

[00:30:09] [SPEAKER_04] Oh, my God. And I think I'm glad her I hope she gets to do a like return trip to yes, to like make up for her most recent Tokyo trip.

[00:30:21] [SPEAKER_03] Million percent. And I feel like her statement was really the PR person that probably wrote that statement after her party pictures went online. Give them a raise. Also, she talks about how there was no cheating, which was good. Finally, they were looking for rings. So that's nice. But really, it was that Tokyo trip.

[00:30:47] [SPEAKER_03] That if you get emotional about little things, what's going to happen when something really terrible happens? Okay, she's going to cry.

[00:30:55] [SPEAKER_04] I mean, yeah. And I feel like crying is a very normal reaction. Like, let's normalize having a good cry when you need. Yes. Right. It can be so freeing and so helpful. I try to do my crying by myself in my like room away from people. But sometimes just go out. Sometimes you need a good car cry, good office cry. Like there's just sometimes a nice little cry comes.

[00:31:25] [SPEAKER_04] It needs to needs to happen. And if your significant other can't support your need for a good little cry, then please get rid of them immediately. Like that is not a person that should be in a relationship.

[00:31:39] [SPEAKER_03] Billion, like million, trillion, billion percent. I'm with you. And that's exactly it because it's just so gross to be like, you don't have the qualities of what I look for in a wife. Bitch. Bitch. Like they're dating them for like four years. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. I think it's fair to be like, I don't want to be with someone that went to parties like this.

[00:32:02] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. But then you got back together with them and then dated them for four years. And now you've decided they're not wife material.

[00:32:11] [SPEAKER_03] Unserious. Don't piss me off. You know what I'm saying?

[00:32:14] [SPEAKER_04] Very unserious behavior by Matt James here.

[00:32:18] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. It's just it's wild. And those were like the biggest things. There was a lot of like little like, oh, he, you know, did X, Y and Z. Like it was hard for her to get him to come anywhere with her. Like he wouldn't want to go to weddings. He was this. He he like calls her time to time to check in on her to where Alex had to be like, OK, yeah, that's not good.

[00:32:45] [SPEAKER_03] And and almost like a big sister. Yeah. Where Alex was like Alex. Sorry. Alex Cooper is the call her. She's daddy from call her daddy. And it was it's nuts because like I think I would say some good amount of the podcast was like Alex just kind of being like a girl's girl and like having that like, hey, relationship breakups happen.

[00:33:12] [SPEAKER_03] Like, you know, like how we would talk to each other if we were in that situation. That's that's what she was saying. Like, don't try to talk to him. Don't try to be his friend. Because Rachel was like, maybe I should be his friend. And maybe one day to the end. Alex was like, no. Just yeah.

[00:33:28] [SPEAKER_04] Oh, no. And that's something that like she's still fairly young. Right. Like she's in her 20s or something. 24. Oh, my God. Yeah. That's way too young to be in a four year relationship. I'm sorry. Yeah.

[00:33:40] [SPEAKER_03] Oh, no. Sorry. She's 28 now. She's 24. Yeah. Four years.

[00:33:44] [SPEAKER_04] OK. Yeah. That. Yeah. She's still very young. Like she will be OK. But this. Do I need to stay friends with my ex situate? No. Just no. The answer is always no. Correct. Yeah.

[00:33:59] [SPEAKER_05] Mm hmm.

[00:33:59] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. It's just don't. Don't let people that like have made you feel like a literal ass to like do this to you.

[00:34:09] [SPEAKER_04] And just like I. And this is something that I think comes with experience. Correct. Dealing with shitty exes. Yep. But like them being nice after the breakup is just a way for them to come back in. Into your life and make you feel like shit again. Like that. It's just not a good sign.

[00:34:30] [SPEAKER_03] Yep. And oh, it just it makes me feel so icky. Yeah. But yeah, that is the podcast. And if folks want to go listen to it, you should. It's just a Tokyo thing was the biggest. Mm hmm. And like how the breakup actually happened was not so. Yeah. And he sucks. That. Yeah. That's we hate him. Hey. OK.

[00:34:55] [SPEAKER_04] Because I also remember there being. I'm sorry. I interrupted you. But I also. I also remember them like when he was announced as like the first black bachelor that people were annoyed because there was another contestant that people loved more.

[00:35:15] [SPEAKER_03] Well, yeah, he was never a contestant. He was a friend of a contestant.

[00:35:21] [SPEAKER_04] Oh, OK.

[00:35:23] [SPEAKER_03] You know, Tyler, who's like very famous.

[00:35:26] [SPEAKER_04] Oh, OK. I know who you're talking about.

[00:35:28] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. I was like, I don't know what his last name is, but there was like a contestant on the

[00:35:33] [SPEAKER_04] season that was a black man that people were. I don't remember. I don't remember this man's name. So sorry to me. But I remember people being like, why was it not this guy? He was actually a contestant and people loved him. And I don't. I don't know why.

[00:35:50] [SPEAKER_03] Thank you.

[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. Yeah. I don't know why I didn't make this decision, but I just remember like we could have lived in a Matt James free cinematic universe. Yeah.

[00:36:01] [SPEAKER_03] So it's just it's nuts. And listen, I'm sure there's like a little bit like if he were to share his story, there was a little bit of like sympathy that might go his way. But why are we? And he did apologize for his timing of his post. But it's just it's sinister. And I don't like it is. And I don't want it. I don't like it. So yeah, trash him. Six, five, trash.

[00:36:31] [SPEAKER_03] Throw him away. Throw the whole man away. Correct. So yes, that is the update from Call Her Daddy and Rachel Kirkconnell.

[00:37:34] [SPEAKER_03] So next, um, we're gonna be talking, uh, about Twitch, uh, not the streaming platform, but with Steven, uh, boss, who, um, did take his own life, uh, so we will be talking about, um, suicide and, you know, I did wanna, uh, put that content warning out, um, and if you need to fast forward, that's okay too.

[00:37:57] [SPEAKER_03] Uh, so feel free to do that, but if not, um, we're not gonna necessarily talk about him, but what's going on after, uh, now that he has passed on. So, but, you know, always important, I feel like, to talk about it. So, um, yeah, with that, let's, let's start. But, uh, you said, Gia, you do know a little bit about this.

[00:38:22] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah, this is probably the one I know the most about from the stories that you sent me earlier. Um, because I've heard a little bit about it. I remember the news of his passing a few years. I think it was, what, two years ago? At least, yeah. Yeah, so I remember the news of his passing and I wasn't a huge Ellen show watcher,

[00:38:45] [SPEAKER_04] so I was not super familiar with him, but I remember the shock for a lot of people when he died and in the manner in which he died. Especially because he was remembered as, like, this very happy-go-lucky, very... Correct. ...positive presence in the entertainment world.

[00:39:07] [SPEAKER_04] So, I remember just the outpouring of, uh, condolences that came from a lot of people in that industry for him. So, um, as somebody that has struggled with mental health, that really stuck with me and very near and dear to my heart. So we, you know, like, all the condolences to him. Um, now, fast forward to, uh, at the end of this year, like, maybe a month ago is when I first heard this,

[00:39:35] [SPEAKER_04] is when the current story that is going around has been released.

[00:39:41] [SPEAKER_03] And it's, like, I don't know how I feel. That's why I feel like I'm bringing it up on here. Um, because, and I want to lead with that. So, the biggest thing is Alison Hoker, which is his, you know, widow now, um, is, uh, is releasing a memoir. Um, and it's a, uh, you know, it's about her story of love, loss, and embracing the light. Okay? That's what...

[00:40:08] [SPEAKER_03] And she said she's going to be talking, of course, about her late husband. But the thing that she's going to bring up is that she learned that he struggled with addiction, childhood abuse, and, um, has, like, journal entries that she read after his death.

[00:40:34] [SPEAKER_03] And so, obviously, that brings up a lot of mixed feelings. Um, so his family has spoke up. And I mean, like, a lot, I feel like. Where, um, a lot of, like, some, uh, they met, sorry, on So You Think You Can Dance. So, a lot of, like, people are praising her. But then a lot of people are, like, no, this is, like, really terrible. Um, you know, it's, like, shady, whatever you did.

[00:41:02] [SPEAKER_03] And a lot of folks even are bringing up that she made the family sign an NDA. Yes. To attend the funeral. To attend the funeral.

[00:41:11] [SPEAKER_04] Like, would not let them go into the funeral unless they signed an NDA. Yep. And even his own mom. Yes. Which I already think is just unforgivable.

[00:41:25] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. And here's where, like, I agree with you. I want to start with that. Yes. But secondly is, I don't know that his, if, if his mom wants to share a picture of her child online, she should be able to share a picture. Yes. A hundred percent. And Allison is saying, like, well, Allison's daughter ends up, like, releasing a statement, which, again, assuming is all one PR person. Yeah.

[00:41:52] [SPEAKER_03] Um, is that they were sharing that, listen, one, Allison was lenient on it. And two, she just didn't want, like, you know, info about him put out. Which I understand, but I just feel like there's different ways of going about it.

[00:42:07] [SPEAKER_04] But also now she's leaking info out about him after he passed away. Personal details. Personal details. Like, stuff that nobody, is nobody's business to know. And also, like, I'm very much on the side of the family with this one and again. I think I am too. Yeah. Like, I don't know the whole story. Like, I don't know the family dynamics. But.

[00:42:35] [SPEAKER_03] Correct.

[00:42:35] [SPEAKER_04] I think making anybody sign an NDA, regardless of whether you are lenient on it or not, that at the person's funeral, including, like, their close family members in there, I think that is just unforgivable behavior. Excerperer, especially when you're making, like, their immediate family who also just lost somebody very close to them. Like, you were not the closest person to him in his life, ma'am.

[00:43:02] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. And even if you were, like, it doesn't, his mom, like, everyone suffered a loss, right? Like, he died by suicide, which might mean, like, a lot of folks didn't know that he was struggling.

[00:43:13] [SPEAKER_04] Yes. Yes. And then I think that there is a world, right, where she could put out a story about, like, that focuses on, like, her journey of being a widow after his passing.

[00:43:27] [SPEAKER_03] Which makes sense to me. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:43:29] [SPEAKER_04] I think if you're framing it like that, focus on, obviously, you went through a very sudden, very heartbreaking loss. And those are going to be some, like, incredibly difficult major life changes that happen to you and your kids right away.

[00:43:50] [SPEAKER_04] And I think that there's probably a lot of content that could be turned into a book there about her talking about her becoming a widow and her journey into this next phase of her life after no longer having her husband with her.

[00:44:04] [SPEAKER_04] But it's the fact that she's posting these, like, about these private stories, posting journal entries from his personal writings before he died by suicide in there. It's just like, this feels, and had a people's story, like a front page spread to about his passing and about this new book.

[00:44:31] [SPEAKER_04] It just reads cash grab and it reads very tasteless cash grab, especially because his family doesn't want this. Co-workers from their time on So You Think You Can Dance have spoken out about this. Like, there are so many people that were also in his life saying, do not do this. This is a terrible way to remember him. And, like, this is, like, a cash grab.

[00:45:00] [SPEAKER_04] Like, all of the different reasons why you should not be doing it. And she's still doing it. I just, I, like, maybe I'm missing a big piece of information. But I just think that's exactly what I feel. Yeah. But I think that, like, this, from the information we have currently, I think that this is diabolical work on her end.

[00:45:21] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. And, again, it just, so his family has now gone on, like, the offense. And his mom has shared, like, our family's appalled by, you know, the misleading and hurtful claims. The, you know, it's basically saying, like, it's not decent. I will not let these accusations go unanswered. Right? Like, and she's just talking a lot about how they've been quiet, you know, to protect the family.

[00:45:50] [SPEAKER_03] But it seems like his mom, Twitch's mom, has not been able to see her grandkids. You know, again, allegedly. And she's like, but I'm still trying to, like, figure that out. And that's fine. But on top of that, it seems like someone, his cousin was like, it's not, you know, it feels to them that you're trying.

[00:46:14] [SPEAKER_03] It's his cousin, like, trying to make it seem like, hey, he's like some, you know, person that was really struggling with drugs. But in reality, like, maybe he just, all the claims is that, even in the book, is that weed and mushrooms and some pills, but doesn't specify the pills. And weed and shrooms, I get, we, you know, might have different opinions on it. But it's not in the same way that when you hear that someone has a drug addiction, those are not what you think about.

[00:46:44] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. Agreed. So, like I said, a lot of people have come out against it, except Jenna Dewan, who definitely posted, love you, Allison. Hope this will help others.

[00:47:06] [SPEAKER_04] I hate this. I hate this for me, who actually kind of liked Jenna before this.

[00:47:14] [SPEAKER_03] And I get her side in the divorce, so now I'm really pissed off.

[00:47:18] [SPEAKER_04] I know, right? Now, you're telling me now I have to side with Channing Tatum? No. Like, I guess.

[00:47:23] [SPEAKER_03] We both, we lose, that's it.

[00:47:25] [SPEAKER_04] We lose, we all lose today. Like, ugh, that, listen, girl, breathe the room.

[00:47:33] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah, it's just like, enough. And like I said, maybe Jenna just didn't realize what was actually going on. But in my mind, I think there's a beautiful story, if you want to share about like, you just lost someone. Yes. What do you do now? Unexpectedly. And you have to pick up your whole life and you have a freaking kid. I think that's fair. But kill it. Like, it's just, we don't do this.

[00:48:00] [SPEAKER_03] And I don't know that you need to like, smear his story like that or his life in that way. And I even found a Reddit post, which I've, it's wild. It seems like this person on Reddit, again, allegedly, is Twitch's friend and was like one of his groomsmen.

[00:48:27] [SPEAKER_03] Apparently, it ends up saying like, our friendship spanned 20 years. And I'm writing this because I'm sick and tired of Allison continuing to use his depth for publicity. Where, you know, people have questioned why those close to him are upset. And I want to give some clarity, basically. And they were saying that like, outsiders might be confused looking in. But if you talk to any of his non-industry friends about their interactions with Allison,

[00:48:54] [SPEAKER_03] you'll get a very like, dismissive, uninterested, not necessarily rude, but she just wasn't wanting to get to know people that aren't like, in Hollywood. Yeah. Yeah. And he says some other non-unkind things that I don't, I'm not going to repeat. Like, it's weird. And he talks a lot about like, you know, he was, Stephen was happy.

[00:49:22] [SPEAKER_03] So most of us didn't make a, you know, big fuss. But of course, now they're like, why is she doing this now? And it's funny because, or sad, I don't know. I shouldn't say funny. That he actually wanted to see, like Twitch wanted to leave, like phase himself out of the industry and solely focus on being a father. And allegedly, she was having none of it. Ooh.

[00:49:51] [SPEAKER_03] And knew how to exactly leverage what he valued. So trying to paint the picture that there was no conflict between them is frustrating. Then at Stephen's funeral, none of the like groomsmen or his best friends, not even the guy who's, you know, his best, best friend since childhood got to speak. Oh God. Yeah. And of course the NDA stuff as well.

[00:50:18] [SPEAKER_03] And, you know, they're saying like, like this person just doesn't understand why, because he's also been, you know, gone for two years. And his family apparently was only recently given his burial site information.

[00:50:36] [SPEAKER_04] Oh God. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:50:39] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah.

[00:50:40] [SPEAKER_04] Now, listen, I, I don't want to be the person that's like measuring, like comparing loss to, you know, like the level of loss people are feeling in this type of situation. And I'm not going to pretend to fully know or know or understand everything that people are thinking in this moment, especially for me.

[00:51:03] [SPEAKER_03] And may none of us have to be in that situation.

[00:51:06] [SPEAKER_04] Exactly. But I can't imagine going through the same thing where I lose a friend unexpectedly in such a way, and then not being able to mourn them in a public way. If that makes sense. Like, I want to be like being able to discuss them, mourn them openly, say their thoughts at the funeral, at the service or do something for them.

[00:51:35] [SPEAKER_04] I like forget paperwork, forget like making me sign an NDA or anything like that. I just think like that piece of information itself tells me everything I need to know about this woman. But I just really, the more I hear about it, the more I am heartbroken for his family and friends that did not get to process maybe all of the feelings that they had been feeling for some time.

[00:52:02] [SPEAKER_04] Only now to hear that she's coming out with this tell all book from her perspective about her late husband.

[00:52:11] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. And the journal entries is just.

[00:52:15] [SPEAKER_04] That's the thing I really hate about this. I just don't feel like a publishing private journal and like it feels very exploitive and it doesn't feel like this is going to help people in the way she's claiming it will with how she's framing this tell all book. So I hope people don't buy it.

[00:52:34] [SPEAKER_03] Like you do not buy. Yeah. A hundred percent that. And especially when we have to remember the toxology, the toxology reports came clean. Yes. So why are we even bringing it? So, so really for us that have no idea about their inner workings had zero idea. Yeah. That this was happening because of the reports coming clean.

[00:53:01] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. I. Yeah. We didn't know any of that. And also we don't know like what, again, we don't know what type of drugs it was. We don't know the details of it. We don't know the circumstances surrounding it. And I feel like just from what I have heard about some of the details that are discussed in this book about like from his journal entries. Yeah. It just does not seem like information that should be revealed unless he himself had was

[00:53:31] [SPEAKER_04] still alive and wanted to reveal that information himself. It just does not feel right to be acting like the spokesperson for this man's legacy when so many of his family and friends and people in the industry are saying, you know, like this is a terrible thing to do. Yeah.

[00:53:51] [SPEAKER_03] That's I think exactly why it just it does not sit right with me. And it's just so gross. So, yeah, we'll like keep an eye out if more stuff comes. But currently just don't buy the book. It's just it's. And yeah. And again, I would she could talk about herself and we would have been all right.

[00:54:14] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah, we could read. There are so many great books out there about how to like process your own trauma that you don't have to. This was never a requirement of her. She does not have to do this. So she could have done something completely different and have probably a more positive impact on the world than what she's doing now. So, yeah, do not buy this book. Yep.

[00:54:36] [SPEAKER_03] And that is it. That is our tea on that. I think we're going to go now, Gia, to your story, the story that you wanted to discuss. So I'm really excited to talk about this because as soon as you said it, I was like, duh. Yeah, we should talk about this.

[00:54:52] [SPEAKER_04] I feel like this has been my recent Roman Empire story. Like, will I be thinking about this like 10 years down the line? Probably not. But I feel like right now this is one of the new stories that I'm most invested in because it just covers so much about the entertainment industry that I'm so excited for.

[00:55:13] [SPEAKER_03] Yes. And I feel like I've gone on record talking about the Oscars and my frustrations with it. So this is like so that. So we're talking about the controversy around Amelia Perez, which maybe folks don't know. It's a movie starring Zoe Saldana, where it is about a Spanish, you know, opera that talk

[00:55:35] [SPEAKER_03] and it's on Netflix that, you know, it's it's very much about a murderous Mexican gang leader who dreams of living openly as a woman, which I think could is on paper a good premise. Yeah.

[00:55:52] [SPEAKER_04] So I guess I now Sasha. Yes, I I love award season. That does not mean that I watch all the movies that are nominated. Right. Like I am not here to like have some fake semblance of culture about like saying that I've seen all of these award winning movies. Like mostly when I watch movies, I want to laugh and I want to be entertained. So yes, a lot of these movies would not necessarily be in my watch list. Right.

[00:56:22] [SPEAKER_04] So I have myself not seen Amelia Perez, but I have heard several things about now. Amelia Perez at the Golden Globes. I think it won several awards, but I think most controversially it won the best motion picture for a comedy or musical. Yes. Compared to some other shows that I think a lot of people would argue deserves it more.

[00:56:52] [SPEAKER_04] Mm hmm. But the major controversies around Amelia Perez is the way that it glamorizes the Mexican cartel. Cartel. I want to say industry like crime industry when it has had a devastating effect on Mexico as a whole. And so many people have lost family members or have family members that are missing as a result of gang violence within the cartels.

[00:57:23] [SPEAKER_04] Right.

[00:57:24] [SPEAKER_03] And and and and and right. I feel like there's so much. Yes. And on top of it. Yeah.

[00:57:30] [SPEAKER_04] This very few of the actors that are in the production are not Mexican. Correct. Most of the none of the leads are. Yes. I don't know. Is the the actress that plays Amelia Mexican or no?

[00:57:49] [SPEAKER_03] From what I was reading, it's saying it features no Mexican lead.

[00:57:53] [SPEAKER_04] OK, so she so there are no Mexican actors in the lead roles, which, again, this is based on Mexico and the director like the production team themselves are not Mexican. Like it is a French director behind this film. And I think probably most controversially, which kind of sums up a lot of the issues around

[00:58:18] [SPEAKER_04] this movie is when asked about research that he did for the film or she did. I can't remember the director's name, but for it's a man. It's a man. OK, of course it is. But but for the research that he did.

[00:58:34] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah.

[00:58:34] [SPEAKER_04] Yes. The research that he did for the film, he said that he didn't really do any research and that he just knew what was going to make a good movie. And then also when asked when if, you know, why the leads aren't Mexican, that he said that they didn't have the talent like there wasn't any Mexican talent that was fit for the movie, which I highly doubt. Which are you, Siri?

[00:59:04] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah, like, I'm sorry. There are just no talented people of Mexican descent. Guys, sorry. We tried. We looked like be so for real.

[00:59:14] [SPEAKER_03] And what are we doing? And not only that, did you know that they also wasn't shot in Mexico?

[00:59:22] [SPEAKER_04] Yes, I did know. I forgot about that. But I remember reading about that. It was like I can't even remember where it was, but it was not in Mexico at all.

[00:59:29] [SPEAKER_03] No, in Paris on a sound stage. Oh, yeah. OK.

[00:59:34] [SPEAKER_04] Insane behavior from them. But so a lot of controversies around it. Mexican activists have been quite outspoken about this film. And I didn't know. Again, I do not watch a lot of these movies. I don't follow a lot of like the Oscar buzz closely.

[00:59:56] [SPEAKER_04] But I do remember the controversy really started to stir up after Amelia Perez won that Golden Globe. And then just a week ago on my birthday, let's also say that the Oscar nominations came out. It was a great birthday, by the way. Like getting Oscar buzz and scandals on my birthday was truly the gift that keeps on giving.

[01:00:23] [SPEAKER_04] But the Oscar nominations came out and they were nominated for a bunch of awards again, I think to like almost record breaking amounts as well. So it seems like we the likelihood of us having a repeat of the Golden Globes drama.

[01:00:41] [SPEAKER_04] I don't want to say drama controversy, maybe like the very similar repeat to Amelia Perez winning a lot of awards is quite possible. And again, this movie has been has claimed to have or this movie has been. What's the not revered? What's the opposite of a critic claimed by it? No, no, no, no.

[01:01:11] [SPEAKER_04] It's no panned. Sorry, that's the word I was like. It's been panned by people that are actually impacted by Mexican cartels, people that have been even their portrayal. And again, I haven't seen the movie itself, so I can't speak to the portrayal of the title character, Amelia Perez. But people had issues with how trans people are in the movie are portrayed as liars.

[01:01:36] [SPEAKER_03] Glad put out a statement.

[01:01:37] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah.

[01:01:38] [SPEAKER_03] About it.

[01:01:39] [SPEAKER_04] So, yes. So there were there was a lot of things that people really dislike about this movie. And I think those criticisms are valid. It's not just I don't like this movie. It is. This is a very culturally insensitive piece that is not in any way Mexican or authentic to the Mexican experience, but claims to be. Even things like I remember there is this.

[01:02:04] [SPEAKER_04] I've seen like the phone call scene that that has gone around Twitter sometimes where they are showing Selena Gomez is like broken Spanish. I'm just like you couldn't get a talented Spanish speaker. Like there were no talented Spanish speakers in this film either. Like there was no talented Spanish speakers available for this role.

[01:02:27] [SPEAKER_04] Like so it was just very clearly that she was not fit for that role in particular because she does not speak fluent Spanish. And listen, as somebody that is not bilingual themselves, some roles are just not meant for you if you are not bilingual.

[01:02:42] [SPEAKER_03] And I am bilingual, but the way or try. But the way I speak even Hindi or Marathi wouldn't does not sound like a native speaker anymore. I unfortunately speak with an accent. Yeah. You wouldn't like. And if if I had to, you know, act like, oh, or I had to put on an accent first if I couldn't do it. But, you know, to act like to sound like I have been in India and lived there my whole life. Impossible.

[01:03:10] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. Oh, yeah. And I and I struggle with languages like I took Spanish for 12 years and retained almost none of it. Like I am just I struggle with. Pick trying to pick up languages like I've tried the Duolingo. I've tried like pretty much every language app that you can imagine. Sometimes you are just not meant for a particular role. Like, yeah, what was that? Like even me applying for a job, if the role. Scarlett Johansson. Yeah.

[01:03:38] [SPEAKER_04] A Spanish speaker or be bilingual or even know some Spanish. I would not apply for that job because I am not equipped for that role.

[01:03:47] [SPEAKER_03] And so brain. Yeah.

[01:03:49] [SPEAKER_04] Because I have a brain. Yeah. Thank you. But you would think it would be the same for a movie as big as Amelia Perez has been. So. It's unfortunate that. It's getting so much award season buzz. Yes. When I feel like.

[01:04:11] [SPEAKER_04] There are some ways to tell beautiful stories about trans Mexican figures, whether.

[01:04:19] [SPEAKER_03] Well, I'm sure Mexican writers and creatives are making, by the way. Yes.

[01:04:24] [SPEAKER_04] And it is not these people. It is not. It is not the people that were involved in this film. And actually. So I just saw this yesterday. And I found it. I saw it on Twitter, I believe. Yeah. And they. It's some Mexican filmmakers actually recently came out with. With a parody of the Amelia Perez called.

[01:04:54] [SPEAKER_04] Where was it? Oh, my God. They called it. Hold on. I have it. I had it a second ago. Please. Yeah. But listen, while you. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. So it was called Joanne or. I'm sorry if I'm butchering the French name, Joanne or Johan Sacrebleu set in French and filmed in stereotypical French accents, but starring Mexicans and filmed in Mexico.

[01:05:23] [SPEAKER_04] It was really like Camilla Aurora, a trans Mexican content really relater. And this film, which I recommend people watch. I am still struggling because I'm trying to find a way I can watch it with English subtitles. But I did see some of it and it was it still made me chuckle. And it follows a trans Mexican or sorry, it follows a Tertullio character, a trans woman and heir to France's largest baguette company.

[01:05:57] [SPEAKER_04] And the film, since its release has been has gone viral and has it says here on Wikipedia, reaching hundreds of thousands of views after the first few days released online. I have a feeling it's probably much, much higher as of now.

[01:06:15] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But and listen, who knows how many as well? So, yes. Oh, my gosh. That's so funny. See, this is what I want more people to do. Like when Slumdog Millionaire came out, I wanted to shoot myself and I've gone on, like I said, record talking about this where my frustration with the Oscars is like the BIPOC movies that it highlights. Yeah. Is always struggle. Really?

[01:06:45] [SPEAKER_03] Like it's never normal.

[01:06:47] [SPEAKER_04] Yes. This is girl. We we dealt with Slumdog Millionaire. We dealt with 12 Years a Slave. Correct. Django. Django Unchained. Green Book. Even like of all the Spike Lee movies that won Oscars, they picked the one where the main character is a cop the whole time.

[01:07:07] [SPEAKER_03] Like, yeah, I don't. The in the Bollywood. First of all, Bollywood and well, RRR. Yeah, actually, hell even RRR, the Netflix movie that won, I believe, the foreign Oscar. Same thing. You're right. It is a movie based in colonization. And the other movie from India, Bollywood, that was nominated, RRR is not Bollywood. It's a South movie.

[01:07:36] [SPEAKER_03] But our sorry, Lagan is also about colonization and how this village beats, beats this cricket, beats their landowners or, you know, whatever the British. Yeah. Like, the colonizers. Yeah, the British Raj in the movie. And it's all about taxation. For that little town.

[01:08:05] [SPEAKER_03] So our village. So our village. Same thing, Gia. It's just that is all the Oscars are good for. And it really pisses me off.

[01:08:13] [SPEAKER_04] It really is. And it's like something they try to pretend that they're better at now. Mm-hmm. But they really have never gotten better. Like, they try to say they, this time we're different every year and they're never different. They're never better than they were before.

[01:08:32] [SPEAKER_04] So as much as I love award season drama, and I think because of so many levels to just how wrong they were for Amelia Perez getting all of this award season buzz. Yep. I feel like this is very typical, you know, very typical Oscar buzz.

[01:08:55] [SPEAKER_04] And it highlights a lot of the, what I would say, performative activism that happens within the Hollywood elites, within whatever you want to call them. Like, within the people deciding what types of pop culture is getting the most praise. I am so with you. Also, just really quick, on top of it, just another thing about the Golden Globes that pisses me off. The Bear is not a comedy. So.

[01:09:24] [SPEAKER_03] No, oh my God. That whole category is so stupid, Gia.

[01:09:27] [SPEAKER_04] Yes. So cut the shit. Whoever is making these decisions, put The Bear in drama where it belongs and give my awards to Abbott Elementary. Or Hacks or whatever other shows that are getting awards right now in there. Like, it doesn't have to be Abbott Elementary, but you know they deserve a couple. So.

[01:09:47] [SPEAKER_03] It. You don't get me started because all these bitches that are like, oh, they win. Beyonce wins too much. So I'm not going to vote for her. Don't piss me off.

[01:10:00] [SPEAKER_04] Exactly. I know what you mean by that. Yeah. I can't tell right now, but I'm giving them serious side eye about it. Correct.

[01:10:09] [SPEAKER_03] And this is why I can't with awards season because it really pisses me off overall. Mm hmm. Oh my God. But not in a like everyone should stop watching. It's just be be vigilant. Yeah.

[01:10:24] [SPEAKER_04] Like, I think and listen, I have what I watch some pretty. Not always. Let's just say PC media in my day. Like we are millennials. Are you kidding me? Yes. I'm used to problematic media. OK, we were raised on problematic media in one way or another. Like this is this is nothing new, I think. And if you watched Amelia Perez and got something positive out of it, then like I am not here to yuck your yum or whatever it is.

[01:10:52] [SPEAKER_04] Or if you are somebody that is like actively. Like involved in award season drama or somebody that like wants to watch all the movies and everything, I am not here to say that you are wrong. I'm saying just be aware of some of the content you're consuming and why people may have some problems with it. As with everything, you can still watch it and enjoy it. But just be aware.

[01:11:17] [SPEAKER_03] I am million percent with you. Oh, just tired of them playing media. That's all I know. Right. All righty. Um, are you ready for some anonymous? Yes, I am so ready. Oh, perfect. So we're going to do something different here. But it felt like it's gonna it's like right up your alley. So two different messengers. And we'll see.

[01:11:47] [SPEAKER_03] Maybe the second one we'll get to next week, which is OK. No pressure on any of us. But it vibes only. But two people have written and want to talk through some advice. OK, so I feel like that's a different anonymous. And we are low, very low on anonymous. We need your mess, y'all. OK, so now that we're maybe branching out to advice. Please send us your advice questions.

[01:12:18] [SPEAKER_03] Please. All right. Messmagnets.com. Tinyurl.com slash messmagnets. Please and thank you. All right, Gia. I did not send this to you because, you know, I want your reaction. OK. This person said, hi, I need advice. Since May 2024. So my apologies for how late this might be. But, you know, where are your problematic faves? It's fine.

[01:12:43] [SPEAKER_03] Since May 2024, a group of three couples have been meeting up to hang out. We go to the movies, play cards, dinner, etc. Sometimes we all go out and sometimes we just do girls night. It's been fun. We got together about once a month. The guys also started doing a weekly card night. I just found out that the other two girls have been going to card night.

[01:13:12] [SPEAKER_03] So it's my husband and the other two couples. And I've been left out. When my husband told me that the last couple of weeks that the other ladies have been going, I felt snugged. He said I should just start showing up with him. But I don't want to show up when I haven't been invited. What are your thoughts on how I should proceed?

[01:13:32] [SPEAKER_04] Oh, God. I hate this for her. Yeah. Well, okay. So my initial concern before I heard the end of it was, is the husband aware that she's not involved? Like she's like, is the husband purposefully leaving her out?

[01:13:53] [SPEAKER_03] But it doesn't seem like that's the issue here. Right. Because it seems like the husband's the one that told her anyway. Not right. Not when they're talking about it at girls night.

[01:14:03] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. Like that. It's like something that had just started happening recently, but now they keep coming. I kind of move on. Listen, I am a very big proponent of if I'm not invited, I'm not going. Yeah. Type thing. Because why would I want to waste my good evening or good day around people that didn't think to invite me somewhere? So.

[01:14:27] [SPEAKER_03] Same. I get very stressed out with stuff like that.

[01:14:30] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. Like, unless it's like you're there as a plus one and like that was your invite. I don't know. I've just never, I'm never going to be that person. So I totally see her perspective of.

[01:14:43] [SPEAKER_03] And I think that, sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off, but like just, just in addition to that, I also don't want to be that girl that's always, or that's always showing up or that needs to be the plus one. Yeah.

[01:14:57] [SPEAKER_04] And I also don't, I, I really do think like they're, listen, I have friends that I love very dearly and we hang out with their significant others as a group sometimes too. And sometimes it's just us. And sometimes it's all of us and I'm single. So I don't have a person that's there, but that is, that's how it's always been when we hang out. So it's not like a bad thing, but I also enjoy the fact that they don't always need to be around their significant others.

[01:15:26] [SPEAKER_04] There's, you know, like sometimes we hang out and it's a great time. Sometimes their husbands are around too. And it's also a great time, but not because they need to be there. So I'm wondering if it turned into like a, the two wives want to be included in like, they can't stand to not be involved in something with their husbands, or if this was something that they were genuinely invited to.

[01:15:54] [SPEAKER_04] So me personally, I agree with her about not going when she's not invited, but I think if it is bothering her, maybe ask her husband, like what the other two husbands think of it, you know, like were they invited or were they told that they were coming? Um, I think it'd be more interesting to hear some of the context,

[01:16:22] [SPEAKER_04] but if they're really playing this kind of like petty game of we're going to these card nights and the, but we're not inviting our third person, then I just don't know if that's people I would want to be spending all of these nights with. Like maybe you just stick to your couple's hangouts together and not, and forego the ladies nights. If it becomes an issue, if you really think it's like, Yeah.

[01:16:47] [SPEAKER_03] If they're like being mean girls.

[01:16:49] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. Like if they're purposefully excluding you and it's turning into like, you know, we need to do something without her, then I would not want to be more involved with them than I already am. I would probably even say like the girls nights themselves are not worth it. Cause you don't need those types of people in your life.

[01:17:09] [SPEAKER_03] Yup. I also have another thing. I, I really like Gia, the idea of asking, you know, having the, the men first talk about it. Right. Like I think your husband could almost play stupid and be like, Oh shit. Didn't realize, um, you know, Jane and Jane number two are coming. So, um, should I invite, or did y'all invite them or, or how did that happen?

[01:17:37] [SPEAKER_03] Just so I invite our messenger. At least get the tea on that number one. And then secondly, I think at your next girls night, you could also bring that up. Oh shit. I didn't realize y'all were going. Um, should I join? I think. And I'm telling you this because I feel like this is the energy we all need to have in 2025, where when people do shameless things, they don't feel shame.

[01:18:04] [SPEAKER_03] So why should we feel shame calling it out? Yeah, exactly. So I just think it's worth maybe first, you know, like I'm just trying to think like, Oh, it just happened. And some people really be dumb like that in group settings. Um, but you know, when you're in group settings, I feel like IQ just goes down. So I would actually ask at girls night, like, you know, nonchalantly because listen, we're too cool for any person that don't want to include us. Okay.

[01:18:34] [SPEAKER_03] Yes. But yeah, I think in addition to your husband asking, it can be at the same time, obviously y'all have to like stagger it, but I don't like would relate that to their wife. So I think we're good, but I think, yeah, there's worth asking to be like, Oh, husband mentioned that y'all were there. Um, should I join or what's, what's the tea on that? I really think playing dumb in these situations is the way to go.

[01:19:00] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. And I also kind of feel like they have to be, there has to be a piece missing to this. Like either they are mean girls or something else happened here because there's no way they were doing this thinking that she was never going to find out about it. Right. Like they want, they have to know that she's aware that this is going on.

[01:19:24] [SPEAKER_03] So eventually come out.

[01:19:27] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. Like it doesn't sound like her husband had any issues like telling her about it. So it's not like this was some grand secret, but yeah, I want to know. I want to know more, but I do think that like, yeah, both. I think you're right. This is 2025. We are calling shit out as we need play dumb. If you need to, but yes, we are not, we do not have time for fake friends.

[01:19:51] [SPEAKER_03] That's what I'm saying. And I think like, like confronting them might, might backfire, right? Like fully, I mean, confronting them might backfire because then they're just going to make you, you know, gaslight you, right? They'd be like, Oh, you're being crazy. You know, whatever you could come anytime. We didn't realize he wasn't telling you, right? Like they could just say shit like that. And then what are you going to do about it? Yeah. So that's why I feel like play dumb for, because get all the info first is my point. Yeah.

[01:20:20] [SPEAKER_03] And my next question is, you know, are they friends? Like are the two of them, um, closer friends? Did they know each other before they knew you? Cause that also will add the third layer, right? That like, you know, sometimes in a group of three, there's always a third.

[01:20:38] [SPEAKER_04] That is true. I agree.

[01:20:40] [SPEAKER_03] And I'm telling you Gia, the amount of times I have been the third.

[01:20:43] [SPEAKER_04] Oh yes. No, same. Absolutely. And I'm fine with that. I'm fine with being the third, but like there are usually, there is usually a third somewhere in there.

[01:20:52] [SPEAKER_03] Yes. And it's like, you just got to let me know where I stand. And then that will help me decide what the hell I'm doing. Yeah. So that's my like, yeah. Advice is like, I think first you need to do a little bit of discovery interviews as they say to figure out what the T is. And I think if you're like, like they have no problem, like saying it to you and you feel confident that like, Hey, there's, they're just like saying it and be like, girl. Oh yeah.

[01:21:22] [SPEAKER_03] You need to come. We just thought you're coming. I think try to go and just be a little bit like trepidatious of people like that. Yeah. Of everyone. But we're not dumb either.

[01:21:42] [SPEAKER_04] That part. A hundred percent agree. I also just think it's kind of, I don't know, not that it has to be divided by gender necessarily, but it seems odd to me that there's going to, they had a girl's night going and a guy's nights going. And then two of the, of the women are crashing the guy's nights thing. Like, I feel like there's a piece in there that maybe, maybe even he does not know the full story, the husband,

[01:22:09] [SPEAKER_04] or I feel like there's something that we're missing in here. Yes. That we wouldn't like that. We need to know more of, because it just seems like a very odd change to suddenly be happening.

[01:22:22] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah. Like what, what is the reason? Yeah. Like why did this start happening? That's where I think husband has to take the lead.

[01:22:29] [SPEAKER_04] Yes. Agreed.

[01:22:31] [SPEAKER_03] And, and like you said, like, and I think husband needs to like ask what happened. Stand up for your woman. Yeah. Like just play a little dumb. Oh, I didn't realize what are they coming to everyone. Um, then all good. I'll, you know, come in. Um, and, and I wouldn't even say like, Hey, I don't want to get in trouble with my wife. Cause you do have to be one unit. Yeah, exactly. So he can't be like, I don't want to be in the dog house.

[01:23:00] [SPEAKER_03] So that's why I'm asking none of that shit, you know? Yeah. We're not doing that in this day and age. Yep. Just be like, what happened? Now. And that, like I said, I just feel like playing dumb really gets us far in life.

[01:23:17] [SPEAKER_04] I love a good playing dumb investigative situation.

[01:23:23] [SPEAKER_03] Yep. And like I say, you, y'all just gotta be cool till you get all the info and maybe G is that something's missing. Um,

[01:23:31] [SPEAKER_04] and then once you do have the information act, how you feel is most appropriate.

[01:23:37] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah.

[01:23:37] [SPEAKER_04] Or write back in and let's see. Um, Oh yeah. Please update us. Yeah. Like I would love to know if anything, uh, comes of this advice. Correct. Or maybe we're too late and we're sorry.

[01:23:49] [SPEAKER_03] Um, but, but I, but still let us know. You should have done. Yeah. Yeah. But then still let us know what, what you did do or how did you figure it out? Um, and the last thing I'll say on this, uh, Gia, I just realized maybe the cards night is at one person's house. Hmm. Hmm. And did she just invite the other girl over because, Hey, all the boys are hanging out at my house. Come over. That could also be.

[01:24:19] [SPEAKER_03] And that continued part two. I don't know. I, I don't know if I'm making excuses, but I hate to like break up friendship. Maybe that.

[01:24:26] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. No, I feel like that's definitely a possibility too. Like we're only getting a very quick recap of the story. So it could very much be something like that. Um, but you know, just, I'd say do a little detective work, see what's happening. Yep.

[01:24:42] [SPEAKER_03] And we did have like other mess, um, where, uh, we did talk about like, yeah, this kind of friends hanging out with other friends. So, um, so yeah, I just, I feel like this happens a lot and like, let's all just be better friends, but the messengers are good friends. So, uh, send this to your shitty friends. I'm just kidding. Oh my gosh. But yeah, Chia, that's it. Oh my gosh.

[01:25:12] [SPEAKER_03] That was so fun. I had such a great time. Oh my gosh. Thank you so much for coming on as always. Cause listen, the girlies are together. We're just so happy. You could jump in. Um, and you know, Kirsten, just sending Kirsten good vibes, um, as she's dealing with construction stuff. And with, with that, everyone listening, subscribe to the mess magnets feed. Cause this is maybe because of Gia, you're now here. So subscribe to us, leave us a five-star review,

[01:25:42] [SPEAKER_03] help us out. Um, and everything mess magnets related. Go to mess magnets.com. All right. And with that Gia, where can the people find you?

[01:25:53] [SPEAKER_04] You can follow me on Twitter, Instagram, blue sky, and Tik TOK at classically Gia for all of my reality TV. So I've already said everywhere that I, you, that I podcast. So like silent podcast, um, recap, kickback. I'm on there. Take a look, give us five stars, particularly for Abbott elementary, which just got renewed for season five recently. So, and I love a lot to celebrate moving forward.

[01:26:22] [SPEAKER_04] And then also, uh, inside survivor is doing their 50 for 50 recap. So I'll be back doing some recaps for survivor 48 when that premieres. But until then I will be having some, uh, articles coming out soon about some players that I think should return for survivor 50.

[01:26:43] [SPEAKER_03] Yeah, perfect. Oh, listen, check out everything Gia's doing bad-ass on blue sky and Twitter, of course, as well. Um, and as for me, of course, in addition to being here, Taryn and I released a bunch of jet lags. Uh, We did a season recap. We also talked to the boys, uh, all on Rob as a podcast, YouTube channel. So check that out. And honestly, it was so fun. Um, I really enjoyed it. And,

[01:27:13] [SPEAKER_03] um, the boys were always ridiculous as usual. Are we surprised? So check all of that out. And if you're wondering what jet lag is, well, it's an amazing race meets the task master type show. They have their own YouTube channel. And, um, you know what? The, the interview currently has 85 K views. Try to get us to a hundred thousand. Please. I would love that. Um, and of course, I also talked with Taryn about, um, big brother for,
